Option 1 – Train Trip to Narvik The Ofoten Railway is a 43 kilometre long railway that runs between Sweden and Norway. This beautiful train journey is a hidden gem in Northern Norway and runs on an iron rail line linking the largest underground iron ore mine in the world in Kiruna to the Port in Narvik In Narvik you have the opportunity to take the Gondola up to a vantage point with extensive views out towards the Lofoten Islands, ascend the observation deck of the Scandic Hotel and take coffee or lunch (not included) or visit the newly built Peace Museum. This state of the art facility offers a glimpse of what life looked like in these majestic Fjords during the Second World War Nazi occupation. Option 2: Explore Abisko National Park Abisko National Park is sandwiched between picturesque mountains and Lake Tornetrask one of Sweden’s largest and which freezes during winter. Heading off along the shore of scenic Lake Torneträsk – the sixth largest and second deepest lake in Sweden – the tour slowly follows the famous Navvy Trail, giving a chance to see beautiful mountain vistas, frozen waterfalls and stunning Arctic valleys before stopping at the border to enjoy the magnificent views and to take photos. The tour continues up and over Björnfjell – a stunning Norwegian mountain dotted with small grass roofed cottages, before meandering down the mountain, where small birch trees give way to large evergreens, and dramatic mountains fall steeply down into the Norwegian Fjord. As Abisko National Park surrounds Abisko Mountain Lodge you don’t have to go far to get some awe inspiring views of the frozen Lake Tornetrask and the unique glacial formation of Laporten, which rises like a beacon out of the white desert!
