Inspired by your example of faith, over the last few years we have devoted an entire day in Advent and Lent to hear- ing twenty-four hour confessions in the church; this has become as beneficial to my own faith life as it has to those we have served in God’s name. Through this experience, I came to find out that the Sacra- ment of Reconciliation was still alive and well in the city of Joliet. I hold a private joke in my heart that the faithful of St. Patrick’s sin more on Wednesdays than they do on Saturdays, based on the number of faithful who take advantage of the Wednesday confessions we offer at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. As I stated some months back, the experience of hearing twenty-four hours of confessions has floored me here at the parish - I truly did not expect so many faithful to take advantage of this sacrament, based on the parish’s recent history. This said, I have been working with some of the leaders in our community to make the sacrament of Reconciliation more available to those who started a monthly all-night adoration program at the parish (usually one Saturday night a month at St. Patrick’s, which begins at 6:00 p.m. and runs up until the start of Sunday’s 8:00 a.m. Mass). Because of my ever-depleting energy levels, I limited myself to hearing confessions from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. What amazes me is that so many people have been taking advantage of that opportunity that the “ministry in the box” usually runs non-stop in the evening. Each year, August 4th commemorates the Feast of St. John Marie Vianney, recognizing a very humble man who committed himself to hearing 12-14 hours of confessions a day in a small city in Ars, France. Because of his devotion and the wonderful response of faith from those he served in the parish, St. John Vianney is honored as the patron saint of parish priests. As always, we have committed ourselves to hear confessions for sixteen hours that day, as the Curé of Ars would do on a daily basis in this small village in France. Thus, we will honor St. John Vianney’s memory on August 4th by first celebrating the 7:30 a.m. Mass in chapel and follow it with sixteen hours of confessions, beginning at 8:00 a.m. I am most grateful to our monthly adorers who will be on vigil with us in the church through the night in adoration. At 7:00 at night, we will celebrate a special bilingual Mass in St. John Vianney’s honor as well. We are so blessed to be so active at this parish with the . Jay Comerford celebrated his fortieth anniversary Mass, our Vaca- tion Bible School program and our religious education classes, which start in the fall. In addition, we would like to thank for re- ducing our cost of materials almost $500 (which included costs of the tile and underlayment). This In addition, Fr.
