By Fr. Greg Piatt INTENTIONS Last weekend after Masses, a handful of people looking toward this birthday SATURDAY, June 26 weekend remarked how much has been done and accomplished since we formed St. John XXIII three years ago. Mass at 4:00 p.m. Margaret And despite a rocky beginning, we began events like Meals after Masses, hosting Kucharek By an Alpha and the Bishop Barron series, our own Triduum catechesis, held a CSA Deacon Ziggy Raffle, solidified our parishioner base, steadied our parish financial situation, fixed Dr. Gary and improved our church with moving the tabernacle, adding the pews, a new Giovagnoli By efficient cooling, and heating system, and LED lighting inside and outside the church, parish hall and onside the rectory. Graziano Canini Andrew Kososki These are just a few things that happened before the COVID-19 pandemic hit us. By Mary Toal It’s not like we weren’t doing things as a parish community before the pandemic. SUNDAY, June 27 Still, since the pandemic with its difficulties and protocols began and until now, the Mass at 11:00 a.m. true qualities of the St. John XXIII parish community have emerged. Dr. Gary We never missed a Sunday Mass during the pandemic because we cobbled Giovagnoli By enough equipment together and brought you the Mass online. This was because of Graziano Canini dedicated parishioners, who had a weekly focus on producing the online Masses. Anna Saxby By This group of parishioners grew a bit larger when we began offering outdoor Husband, William Masses. And then there was the eagerness of parishioners to return to Mass. We TUESDAY, June 29 then resumed Meals after Masses as a take-out meal, all prepared by parishioners. Mass at 9:30 a.m. We installed wall-mounted TV cameras and a control booth for the livestream Dr. Gary Masses during the pandemic, all operated by parishioners. Giovagnoli By Since the pandemic began, we installed new church doors, added Wi-Fi to the Graziano Canini church, two television screens at the front of the church, a new floor in the gathering space, touchless holy water founts, a new LED road sign, a 50x30-foot WED., June 30 tent, fixed a water drainage problem around the rectory, put a new kitchen in the Mass at 6:30 p.m. rectory, a new door on the rectory and installed a new rectory garage door. The Parishioners We launched a Fish Fry, held a volunteer dinner, a basket auction fundraiser, of St. John XXIII continued Meals after Masses, started a Sunday Scripture group, held Wednesday THURSDAY, July 1 talks on the faith, Confirmed three adults in the faith, held outdoor Confessions, Mass at 12 p.m. began taking the Eucharist to those watching the Mass online. The Parishioners One of those parishioners last weekend said: “Father, the parish has done a lot.” of St. John XXIII In about two years, we have accomplished what it takes some other parishes five to SATURDAY, July 3 ten years. Mass at 4:00 p.m. And we have more coming, in July we will have a new parking lot. We want to get Margaret a new sound system and organ. We are adding the Friday Movie Nights and other Kucharek By events on Fridays. Deacon Ziggy We have started a Catholic Men’s Group and are re-establishing the second Feliciano Ramirez st Sunday Mass. In September, we will begin the 10-week Catholicism Series. The (1 Anniversary) Wednesday after Mass talks return, we are planning a Senior Movie and lunch By Laura Denton event. In addition, we are planning for Lent to establish a Eucharistic Adoration Marie Browning chapel and a Sunday night Praise and Worship service. By William Saxby Leo Zitzewitz By And lastly, during this past year, while most other parishes’ collections decreased during the pandemic, St. John XXIII’s Charles Nowak collections increased by more than 8 SUNDAY, July 4 percent. Thank you for your support! Mass at 9:30 a.m. You probably are saying WOW. How Ray Elam By the did/do we do this. I say, every Sunday, Elam Children parishioners pray to ask the Holy Spirit for Anna Saxby By the miracles of wonder and awe. We have Husband, William our miracles, beloved sons and daughters Tom Rabideau By of God. The Holy Spirit is shining down Brother, Rick grace on St. John XXIII.
