For example, if he excels in English and Mother Tongue but needs more support in Mathematics and Science, he may choose to take the first two subjects at the standard level and the others at the foundation level. Why introduce SBB? 3 To recognise the different abilities of pupils and give them greater flexibility to focus on and stretch their potential in the subjects that they are strong in while building up the fundamentals in the subjects that they need more support in To encourage more interaction among pupils with different strengths. Class allocation is based on merit. Promotion based on the overall total of English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics and Science. All subjects have equal weighting. 11 SBB AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS ADMISSION Catering to your child’s abilities Promotion to Secondary One 12 Progression to secondary level depends on the student’s PSLE score From 2018, all secondary schools offering Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) courses will allow students to take subjects at a higher level from Secondary One Pupils who are not ready to progress to secondary schools 13 School may allow pupils to retake the same subject combination for the following year’s PSLE; or School may offer a different subject combination based on PSLE results; or Student may progress to Assumption Pathway School or Northlight School 14 HIGHER MOTHER TONGUE Catering to your child’s abilities Higher Mother Tongue (HMT) 15 Pupils, capable of taking HMT, are identified based on their performance for P4 school-based examinations. Parents/guardians will be advised whether their child/ward is eligible to take HMT. Parents may opt for their child to take HMT in P5. Option is given only once at the end of P4. Subsequent movement will be based solely on your child’s performance and the school’s decision.
