Day Two Goddesses, Gods and Angels There are many deities associated with fertility, pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. I could talk forever about them. But for the sake of not overwhelming you, I chose one of each to work with :-) Goddess- Rhea Rhea is from the Greek pantheon. Rhea was born to Gaia and Uranus. She married her brother Cronus and went on to have 6 children with him. Demeter, Hera, Hestia, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. However, Cronus swallowed her first 5 children at birth because he was told one of his children would dethrone him. When Rhea gave birth to Zeus, she gave a rock swaddled in a blanket to Cronus who immediately swallowed it. She sent Zeus to Crete to grow up. When he was grown, he came back, overthrew his father and made him disgorge his siblings. MAGICKALMAMAS.COM Rhea means flow and ease, such as the flow of menstrual blood, giving birth and milk. The lion is sacred to Rhea as well as her daughter, Hera. Rhea is often depicted sitting on a throne with a lion on either side. Rhea's chariot is also pulled by lions. Occasionally she is shown riding one. Rhea’s symbol is the swan because it signifies gentleness and peace. Her holy day is Saturday. Rhea's Symbol MAGICKALMAMAS.COM God- Pan Pan is also from the Greek pantheon. Pan is the spirit of wild, irrepressible life essence. He is a Great God of tremendous power, the Lord of fertility, wild nature, ecstatic music, wild goats, shepherds, flocks and hunters. He bestows musical skill. Pan’s nature of one of paradox. He was an uncivilized god in a civilized world. Much like the goat, which could never truly be domesticated, Pan always retained a bit of his feral nature. Though he lived wild and free in the mountains of Arcadia, he also liked the comforts of civilization such as wine, women, and song. Maybe the reason that Pan was often referred to as “The God heard, but not seen” is because of His love for wildness and freedom and his longing for civilization and its benefits. Pan is most often heard through his pan pipe than actually seen. Being a rustic god, Pan was not worshipped in temples or other built edifices, but in natural settings MAGICKALMAMAS.COM Pan is a god of fertility and as he is also the god of bountiful places such as fields, groves and wooded glens. This also connects him to the season of spring, the time when these places come alive again after the harsh winter. This connection to spring also confirms him as being a symbol of fertility. He represents male virility. Colors associated with Pan are purple, brown and green. Pan likes wine :-) Pan’s best time of day is nap time. He may come and bless you during your dreams. Or perhaps an afternoon of fun with your partner is what he would like. Pan's Symbol MAGICKALMAMAS.COM Angel- Archangel Gabriel The Archangel Gabriel is one of the most active and prominent angels who works to assist with souls who will be born, their Annunciation, physical birth, help for expectant parents and those who desire to be parents, babies and all things related to motherhood. The Archangel Gabriel is well suited for the task, as Gabriel is not only the Head Messenger among the angels but he also bears the titles of Angel of prayer, light and mercy. Gabriel’s name is often translated as “Strength of God” and he can be called upon to assist in emotional strength for the challenges of emotional strain caused by a difficult pregnancy or even the strength to pursue the desire to be a parent despite previous efforts or even loss.
