About Pointsec Mobile Palm (5.4) Welcome to Pointsec Mobile Palm (5.4), a top-of-the-range security product which combines mandatory access control, central administration, Remote Help and the user-friendly Pointsec PicturePIN to protect confidential information stored on Palm OS devices. All rights reserved 1 New in This Release Note - Pointsec Mobile Palm (5.4) is a security product designed to provide full protection for your device. If you install other security products on your device, it is possible that Pointsec Mobile will cease to function correctly. New in This Release In this release, the following has been added or changed: New Device Palm Centro is now supported. Palm OS Devices Supported Currently, the following Palm OS devices are supported: • Palm Centro • Treo 650 • Treo 680 • Treo 700p • Tungsten E2 • Tungsten T5 • LifeDrive NOTE: The Tungsten T5 and LifeDrive devices have an internal VFS drive, which will not be encrypted. System Requirements The following sections explain the disk and memory space, operating systems and hardware requirements needed to successfully install and deploy Pointsec Mobile. Disk and Memory Space Table 1 Disk and Memory Space On the: Space Administrator’s workstation 15 MB for Pointsec Mobile Palm OS device At least 800 KB of free storage memory for Pointsec Mobile. Last Update — April 11, 2008 2 General Recommendations Operating Systems, Software, and Hardware Table 2 Operating Systems, Software, and Hardware On the: Space Administrator’s workstation • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, XP Professional, or Vista • Pointsec Administration Console 1.1.1 or later. For requirements regarding Pointsec Administration Console, please see the Pointsec Administration Console Release Notes. Palm OS device • Palm OS 5.4 As of the 2.3 release, Pointsec Mobile no longer supports Palm OS 5.2. Check your hardware vendor’s web site for the latest updates. • HotSync Manager or a third-party software distribution tool. If you are using HotSync Manager, you need a Palm OS device cradle or compatible cable connected to the workstation. General Recommendations We strongly recommend that you: • Always follow the documented procedures for installing, upgrading, and removing Pointsec Mobile. • Do not reset a device when installing, upgrading, or removing Pointsec Mobile. • Always back up data on devices and removable media before installing, upgrading, or removing Pointsec Mobile • Do not set the recovery path to a CD path in Pointsec Mobile. • Ensure that you have access to the recovery file for use with Remote Help if you use 3rd-party synchronization software. If you use the standard HotSync tool, the recovery file is made accessible automatically when the Pointsec Mobile Palm (5.4) HotSync Plugin is installed. Compatibility between Releases Profiles Profiles created in Pointsec Administrator for Palm OS cannot be accessed or used by Pointsec Administration Console. This means that profiles made in versions earlier than Pointsec Mobile Palm OS 2.0.3 cannot be upgraded to this version. Remote Help From version 2.0.3, Remote Help is provided by using Pointsec Administration Console. For earlier versions, you will need access to Pointsec Administrator for Palm OS. See the documentation provided with the software. Pointsec Mobile Palm (5.4) 2.3.2 Release Notes. Last Update — April 11, 2008 3 Compatibility with Other Programs Compatibility with Other Programs Pointsec Administration Console Pointsec Mobile is compatible with Pointsec Administration Console 1.1 and later. Earlier versions of Pointsec Administration Console are not compatible. Pointsec Media Encryption Encryption of memory cards with Pointsec Mobile is compatible with Pointsec Media Encryption 2.3 and later, if AES encryption has been selected in the Pointsec Media Encryption profile used. OneBridge For full Pointsec functionality, please use OneBridge 5.0.2006.0310 or later. If you use an earlier version, it will not be possible to update profiles. If you application attempt to do so, the device may restart. 4705 Device hangs when inserting card if If you insert a memory card into a Tungsten T5 device Files is open (Tungsten T5) when the "Files" application is open, the device may hang, and you will have to reset it. Workaround: Exit "Files" before inserting the card, then open the "Files" application again." 3830 Upgrade of Pointsec Mobile Palm If trying to upgrade the Pointsec Mobile Palm OS (5.4) (5.4) HotSync Plugin does not work HotSync Plugin, the HotSync Plugin will not be used. Workaround: Remove the old HotSync Plugin in Add-Remove programs before installing the new one. Pointsec Mobile Palm (5.4) 2.3.2 Release Notes. Devices running Palm OS 5.4 or later have both new and old databases, and access is only allowed to the new ones.
