Ghazals have acquired a respectable niche in the hearts of Indian music lovers. It represents one of the facets of rich heritage of poetic nuances, embellished by the base of Indian Classical music. He comes from a family of musicians. Both his parents are exponents of the Kirana gharana gayaki. His father Dr. Laxmikant Bapat is a disciple of Lt. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and mother Mrs. Minaxi Bapat is a disciple of Dr. Prabha Atre. Hemkalyan's training in music started at home at an early age with his parents. He has studied tabla, vocal music, harmonium and kathak dance for a number of years. He has accompanied on tabla well known vocalists like Smt. Ashwini Bhide, Lt. Pt. Madhav Gudi, Mashkoor Ali Khan, to name a few. Hemkalyan has performed in various concerts in India, UK and US. Avtar Chand: Avvi had always been a big fan of Indian film songs, especially those sung by Rafi and Kishore. His music interest geared towards Indian classical music in 2002 and he approached Dr. Vivek Khadilkar. Since then he has been learning Hindustani classical music, Khayal Gayaki from Dr. Khadilkar. He has performed in private concerts in USA as well as India. Along with North Indian classcial music, he also sings light classical such as Ghazals. He has performed ghazal programs along with Shri Hemkalyan Bapat. He also enjoys composing ghazals written by him as well as from other poets. Nitin Damle: Nitin Damle was initiated in music by his mother, late Sou. Jayashree Damle who was a member of a large bhajan group guided by late Shri. Bal Mate in Pune. Since then he has accompanied on harmonium a number of local as well as visiting vocalists on both coasts of the US. Notable among the artists that he has accompanied on harmonium over the years are Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee, Smt. Laxmi Shankar, Pandit Upendra Bhat, Pandit Sujan Rane, Pandit Ramesh Narayan, Pandit Girish Vazalwar, Pandit Girish Chatterjee, Pandit Mahesh Kale, Pandit Ratan Mohan Sharma, and Pandit Preetam Bhattacharya. Nitin has been learning Indian classical music from Dr. Vivek Khadilkar of Philadelphia. Artists (Continued) Amod Dandawate: Amod Dandawate has been primarily trained in the Farrukhabad style under the discipleship of Pt. Samir Chatterjee. He was initiated into Tabla by his father Dr. Vasantrao Dandawate at a very young age but started his serious pursuit of the art form only after completing his bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He received initial guidance and encouragement from Shafaat Khan while performing as an accompanist and then spent some time taking lessons from Ust. Zakir Hussain. Having settled in New Jersey since 1997 he has been receiving advanced training from Pt. Samir Chatterjee. Besides performing solo Tabla, Amod has supported classical Indian music performances and activities in the tri-state area as an able accompanist as well. He maintains an active concert schedule and has accompanied many major artistes from India and the US. Apart from being a musician, Amod also holds a Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering. .
