John Shideler Named General Manager at The Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, New York Cooperstown, New York (January 7, 2020) – The Otesaga Resort Hotel announces the appointment of John Shideler as General Manager of the lakefront resort and its sister property, The Cooper Inn, effective January 1, 2020. Shideler arrived at The Otesaga from Cornerstone Hospitality, where he served as Field Operations Manager. In this position he provided an operator’s viewpoint to the owners and developers of the Virginian Hotel, a Hilton Curio Hotel property in downtown Lynchburg, Virginia. He offered pre-opening vision for operations of the hotel, including oversight of the organizational structure, purchasing and supply management, budgeting, communications, property technology, and conference services. An accomplished hospitality veteran, Shideler has worked with well-known and award- winning brands across the country, including Disney Resorts and Colonial Williamsburg. During his 25- year tenure at Colonial Williamsburg, he served in various high-profile roles including General Manager of the five-diamond, five-star Williamsburg Inn; Director of Food and Beverage for Colonial Williamsburg Resorts, where he oversaw several outlets and more than 45,000 square feet of conference space; and Director of Operations for the Williamsburg Lodge and Conference Center. In addition, he oversaw an $88 million-dollar renovation of the Williamsburg Lodge and its 323 guest rooms and conference space. Prior to Colonial Williamsburg, Shideler served as Director of Food & Beverage at Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Shideler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Virginia Tech and is a certified General Manager by Hilton Management Services. Over the last eight years, he has served on Virginia Tech’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Advisory Board. He has been married 30 years to his wife, Cherri, and has three children. Shideler is succeeding Jim Miles, the resort’s well admired General Manager since 2012, who announced his retirement plans last year. During his eight-year tenure, Miles oversaw several significant renovation and expansion plans, including the renovation of The Otesaga’s lobby and all guest rooms, expansion and renovation of Hawkeye Bar & Grill, the installation of the popular Fire Bar and most recently, the opening of 1909, the resort’s modern American steakhouse that opened in August 2019.
