The main role of the Department is to advise the Minister, (Housing and Local Government) who is responsible to Parliament in all matters pertaining to Town and Country Planning in Peninsular Malaysia. The first building which housed the Department of Town and Country Planning is the Kuala Lumpur Secretariat Building (Sultan Abdul Samad Building) which opened on January 18th 1921. I wish to take this opportunity to say thank you to all levels of personnel in the department for their full cooperation and commitment in giving their inputs, ideas and hard work to complete the publication of this Report. The department has since improved the quality of the town and country planning service through a good and effective delivery system based on the 9 Strategic Thrusts and 20 Programmes of the Department. The factor on integrity continues to become the main focus in every action taken and the need to act swiftly and proactively in interpreting customer needs. Creativity and innovative thinking is encouraged in order to foster a high performance and achievement culture. The publication of the department’s Annual Report is an important effort as it contains all activities and information including all the achievements in the reported year. This Report will become a valuable source of documentation and reference for the Department.
