We look forward to your visit and have provided this guide to help assist in your travel plans. The Hancock/Houghton Metropolitan area offers a wide variety of dining choices. In addition, there are several quality hotels in the area. Within this guide you will find contact information for coaches and athletic administrators, directions to the athletic facilities and contact information for hotels and eateries. If you need clarification or have a question you don’t see, feel free to contact the Finlandia University athletic department at the numbers in the guide or find us on the web at www.fulions.com. We ask that requests will be made no later than 48 hours before game time. GAME UNIFORM All questions about uniforms need to be directed to the appropriate coach. LOCKER ROOMS Locker rooms are at the Houghton County Arena (Ice Hockey only) and the Paavo Nurmi Center. There are no locker rooms available at McAfee Field and Driving Park. Teams competing at those venues must use the Paavo Nurmi facilities. NOTE - If using the showers, please bring your own towels as the university does not provide them. ATHLETIC TRAINING Water, cups, ice bags and injury ice will be provided at practices and games. Water and cups will be available in the locker rooms as well. BUS PARKING Houghton County Arena - Unloading and loading can take place in front of the arena. Once done unloading, all buses must park on the east side of the arena (on Driving Park Road) or directly behind. Parking is not allowed in front or in the east side curb spots. McAfee Field - Parking is located behind the Press Box, along Emma Avenue. Paavo Nurmi Center - Bus parking is directly across from the Paavo Nurmi Center (which is on Summit Street). Vans can park in the back lot of Paavo (which is at Elm and Weldon). Finlandia Athletic Training There will be a certified athletic trainer provided for each home event. The training room is at the Paavo Nurmi Center. You will enter the Strength and Fitness Center on the first floor. The training room will be on your left. All visiting teams should bring a medical kit and supplies when they travel. If you have any special needs or additional questions, please contact the trainers at 906-487-7532. An ambulance and two paramedics will be at all football and men’s hockey games. If one is needed for any of the other sports, the trainers or game administrators will contact one. Therefore requests for seating must be made no later than 48 hours before game time. If you need a phone line or internet access, please contact Mike Bond (906-487-7459 or [email protected]) and accommodations will be made. We respond to requests in the order they are received. INTERNET To use the internet at Paavo Nurmi, you must ask for a WIFI code. There is no public WIFI at McAfee or Houghton County Arena. There will be Live Stats and Streaming at each event except for baseball and softball. That can be accessed from the upcoming schedule on the front page of the web, the individual sport page or at https://www.youtube.com/user/FULions REMINDER - There is no internet access at our baseball or softball fields. GAME DAY INFORMATION Rosters and game-day programs will be available. If you need current season stats for Finlandia, please let us know. In terms of when we print game stats please refer to the below bullets: Hockey - The end of each period. Basketball, Football and Soccer - Halftime and end of game. Baseball, Softball and Volleyball - The end of the game/match. If you wish to get stats, please let us know ahead of time. Turn left on Hwy M-28. Follow M-28 to Bruce Crossing. Turn left onto Hwy M-26. Follow M-26 North to Houghton. In Houghton, follow Hwy M-26 to US Hwy 41. Stay in left hand lane and take US 41 across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Refer to Athletic Facilities Directions. FROM GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - Follow Hwy 141 North to Hwy M-28 in Covington, Michigan. Turn right on Hwy M-28 to US 41. Turn left on US 41 North to Houghton. Continue on US 41 North through downtown Houghton and turn right onto the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Refer to Athletic Facilities Directions. FROM MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN - Follow US 41 North directly into Houghton.
