Both Buried: Cookeville City Cemetery, Cookeville, Putnam Co., TN Article in the Herald Citizen Newspaper: 7 May 1931 A well•known political figure here and in Nashville, Sidney F. Carr, died this week. The 66 year old Silver Point native became Register of Deeds here as a young man in the late 1800’s and served in that job for 14 years. He was Putnam’s state representative from 1919•21. Then he worked for the State Board of equalization for three years and as a clerk for various other state departments until 1928. SMITHVILLE •• Funeral services for Sam Denny, 76, of the Long Branch Community of Smithville will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, at DeKalb Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery in Sparta. The family will receive friends from 8 a.m. until time of the services at the funeral home. Mr. Denny died on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his residence from an extended illness. He was a field engineer with Union Carbide until his retirement in 1985. He was a licensed surveyor for DeKalb and Loudon Counties. Mr. Denny authored The History of Long Branch Community, which recounts the history of Long Branch from the early settlement days until the Cordell Hull Dam was constructed. He also wrote several articles for the Middle Tennessee Times. His family includes two sons and a daughter•in•law, James Steven and Sandra Denny of Greenback and Ernest Denny of Land of Lakes, Fla.; two daughters and a son•in•law, Tina Ann and Bob Boring of Greer, S.C., and Elizabeth Gay Denny of Long Branch; two brothers, Larry Self of Cookeville and Jimmy Self of McMinnville; a sister, Frances Irene Bain of Short Mountain; five grandchildren, Jimmy Denny, Stephanie Wing and husband Rocky, DeAnna Denny and Haley and Samantha Denny; and three great•grandchildren. Denny BAXTER •• Funeral services for William L. "Bill" or "Roy" Denny, 71, of Baxter will be held at 2 p.m. today from the chapel of the Baxter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Nash Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family today until the time of the services. Mr. Denny died on Friday, May 9, 2003, at his home in Baxter. He was born Nov. 14, 1931, in DeKalb County Palmato Ashburn Denny of Baxter and the lateBen Denny. Mr. Denny was a former truck driver. Funeral services for J.R. Huddleston, 81, of the Wolf Creek Community of DeKalb County, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home. Burial was in Gordonsville Cemetery. Mr. Huddleston died on Friday April 30, 2004, in Baptist DeKalb Hospital in Smithville. He was born on August 17, 1922, in Buffalo Valley, DeKalb County to the late Hershell Dow and Ora Frances Youngblood Huddleston. He was a bus driver for the DeKalb County education system for 33 years. He also worked at DeKalb General Hospital for five years. On July 18, 1943, he married the former Ethel Elizabeth Jones who survives. In addition to his wife of Wolf Creek Community, his family includes two daughters and sons•in•law, Corina and David (Wink) Carr of Silver Point and Odelene and Richard (Shorty) Pullum of Baxter; a sister, Vera Frances Bennett of Gordonsville; three grandchildren, Harlan Carr, Davis Musgrave and Kristi Burton; and eight great•grandchildren.
