SPACE DEBRIS MITIGATION Workshop 26-27 April 2010 Moscow, Russian Federation Organized by with the support of Workshop Background and Objectives The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) is an international organization based in Moscow. During its fifteen years of work experience it has funded quite a substantial number of projects in the area of space technologies. The Center has been asked to further pay attention to the matter of “Space Debris”. The issue is of increasing importance and requires efforts worldwide. Therefore ISTC decided to organize an International workshop on this subject at its Headquarters in Moscow. This decision has been taken after consultations with ROSCOSMOS, the Russian Academy of Sciences and various other partners. The threat of an increasing technogenic contamination is growing. The space debris problem has many aspects that need to be discussed and regulated. The Workshop is focusing only "big size man-made debris" as separated parts of launches, boost-stages and others. The objective is to discuss from proposals on how to prevent an increasing of the number of big debris and how deal with existing ones. The Workshop aims to unite the international knowledge, experience, efforts and resources to develop effective scientific approaches and technologies to make our planet and near-Earth space a more secure. The following topics will be discussed: • Overview of the problem; • An operational concept and acquired experience on space debris decrease; • Ways, plans and developments of means/vehicles for debris removal from near-Earth space; • Propulsion installations for debris removal from near-Earth space. The meeting will be closed with a round table discussion. Workshop Venue Workshop will be held in the ISTC Headquarters, Moscow, Russian Federation. Restored building of constructivism style (beginning of the twentieth century) is located close to the Moscow center (circle metro station Novoslobodskaya). Call for Papers: The abstract should be in English and not longer than 400 words. The abstract should summarize the main objectives of the paper to be presented and outline its conclusions. The selected papers will be presented in a 20 minute speech at the Workshop. Deadline for abstracts: April 5, 2010. Language: Official language for the Workshop will be English and Russian. Simultaneous translation (Russian & English) will be provided during sessions. Visa Support: ISTC can provide support for getting visa.
