This will be the first time the two channels have co-commissioned a series. This second series will see some episodes shown exclusively on CBeebies allowing the current audience to enjoy more adventures from Katie Morag McColl while other episodes will be shown on CBBC allowing the series to explore slightly more complex storylines and themes aimed at the CBBC audience. Katie Morag is based on the hugely popular series of books by Mairi Hedderwick which relate the adventures of this feisty red-headed girl who lives with her family on the magical island of Struay. The stories celebrate the intrinsic sense of community, the preciousness of the environment and the universal tensions and joys of family life. Cherry Campbell will return as Katie Morag while the rest of the cast includes Gail Watson (Mrs McColl), Kenneth Harvey (Mr McColl) with Katie Morag’s two grandmas being played by Ann Louise Ross (Grannie Island) and Barbara Rafferty (Granma Mainland). Kay Benbow, Controller of CBeebies said: “I am thrilled that Katie Morag will be returning for series two. The first series performed really well on CBeebies, particularly with the older end of our audience. It’s fantastic to be working so closely with CBBC in commissioning the new series with exclusive episodes for both channels.” Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC said: “I am delighted to bring Katie Morag to CBBC. This is the first time that CBBC and CBeebies have co-commissioned a series and I am really pleased to be working so closely with CBeebies. The exclusive episodes to be shown on CBBC will allow us to develop more multifaceted storylines for the older CBBC audience.” The second series of Katie Morag (12 x 15mins and 1 x 30mins) will be filmed over the summer on the Isle of Lewis using both studio facilities on the island as well as the backdrop of the beautiful Hebridean landscape. Produced by Scottish indie Move on Up, the series will be shown on CBeebies and CBBC in 2015. The Executive Producers are Lindy Cameron for Move On Up and Sara Harkins and Michael Towner for CBeebies. The series has also received support from BBC Scotland and BBC Worldwide. The commission is part of BBC Scotland’s commitment to produce distinctive and reflective Scottish output and complements productions including Shetland (BBC One), Sunset Song, Bob Servant (BBC Four) and new landmark series, Highlands (BBC One). The first series of Katie Morag won the RTS Scotland Children’s Award at the inaugural RTS Scotland awards ceremony last week. One of the most famous and successful rock bands ever to have emerged from London, in the 1960s, The Who, along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Kinks took pop and R'n'B to eager audiences in America. Famous for classics like 'I Can't Explain,' 'My Generation,' 'Substitute' and 'Happy Jack', they also played Monterey, Woodstock and Live Aid. On 30th October 2006, The Who released their first studio album for 24 years, 'Endless Wire,' to critical acclaim and Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey realised that the band still had a future. After forty years together, Pete and Roger had a newfound respect for one another. Lorna Gardner / Gary McQueen MONDAY 30 JUNE TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 26 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ River City DATE & TIME CHANGE Monday 30 June BBC One Scotland HD, 8.30-9.30pm This week in Shieldinch…desperate for attention, Kirsty tells damaging lies about Murray which quickly spiral out of control; Murray finds himself the focus of unwanted police attention and local gossip; and Robbie and Will worry foster son Finn is struggling to settle in. With the redevelopment plans greenlit, Murray plans a wake to mark the closure of the community centre. Stocking up on booze, he invites everyone but Murray’s gathering proves thin on the ground and he ends up drinking alone. Bored hanging about Shieldinch, Kirsty hatches a plan to steal some of Murray’s wine to impress Finn. At the Community Centre, Kirsty hides a bottle of wine in her jacket before helping herself to a glass. Believing there’s no harm in having a small tipple, Murray allows Kirsty to have a drink, little realising the repercussions which await. Later, when Raymond arrives at the Community Centre to talk to Murray about his future, he’s uneasy with what he sees. When Kirsty meets Finn to show off the stolen wine, he hints Murray gave it to her in return for sexual favours – a lie which Kirsty fails to correct. And when Alan returns home to find Kirsty and Finn drinking he sees red, throwing Finn out. Desperate to avoid being grounded by her father, Kirsty weaves a web of lies about Murray which leads to police action, unleashes Alan’s fury and casts a shadow of shame over Murray. Elsewhere, Robbie frets about Finn, sharing his worries with Will about whether their foster son will need to give evidence if Murray is charged. Kirsty is played by Bobby Rainsbury, Murray by Brian Cowan, Robbie by Gary Lamont, Will by Scott Vickers, Finn by Sonny Green, Raymond by Paul Samson and Alan by Stephen McCole. For the first time in 300 years the Scottish people will decide their country's destiny in a referendum on independence. Amidst the many questions posed at this time, perhaps one of the most significant is that of identity. Trusadh - Wha's Like Us takes a sample of the nation's identity pulse in 2014 before the big vote. We meet people on the identity spectrum ranging from patriotically Scottish, to almost 100% British, and those who consider themselves as much European as anything else. Trusadh meets musicians, linguists, journalists, historians, professors and business people to get a flavour of the sheer complexity of the modern Scottish identity, and how it has ebbed and flowed over time. The programme also discovers the historical, political and cultural forces that have helped forge the modern Scottish Identity into what it is today. Trusadh - Wha's Like Us. Lorna Gardner / Gary McQueen FRIDAY 4 JULY TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 26 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ I Belong To Glasgow, Ep2/4 TV HIGHLIGHT Friday 4 July BBC One Scotland, 10.35pm – 11.05pm In the second episode of I Belong To Glasgow, actor Alex Norton talks about his relationship with the city, as the place that he left to get work but the place he will always return to. Alex travels back to childhood homes, all of which are no longer there, due to the changing face and demolition of buildings in Glasgow – and goes back to his first dramatic club which set him on the road to an acting career. Along with this, Alex visits the Citizens Theatre where he spent a lot of his younger days to find out how the community theatre group is opening up new skills by boosting confidence in local people. Also this week, Alex looks at his hero Lex McLean, and meets Bob Bain, who is helping to keep Lex’s memory alive - and Alex even gets to try on Lex’s bunnet. Other topics Alex covers include looking at the huge folk scene in Glasgow and the decision he made to set aside his musical ambition to become an actor. He looks at the anti-American protest songs that emerged but also the great love of American country and western songs that the Grand Ole Opry on Govan Road celebrates to this day.
