1 Wavendon Neighbourhood Plan Survey Report June 2015 Page 2 of 100 The following results are based upon the structure of the paper based and online survey which was designed and distributed by Wavendon Parish Council. In total 142 surveys were returned correctly completed. * (Correct completion required a post code) Objective 1: Identifying local housing need and preferred sites for future development (outside the Strategic Land Allocation) How important do you feel new housing development is in Wavendon Parish (excluding the SLA) for each of the following ? Page 3 of 100 Other, please specify the other reasons • Too much housing on SLA already • There is already too much traffic passing through Newport Road. Additional planned housing would put too much strain on infrastructure. • There is already too much traffic passing through Newport Road. The additional planned housing would put too much strain on roads and local amenities. • The area is already being overwhelmed by proposed developments and the infrastructure is not adequate • I believe there is enough housing development in the SLA • Taking account of the SLA there is no further need for local housing! • We feel with the Parklands development in Woburn Sands and the SLA project there will be more than sufficient housing in the local area. We are also very concerned about the extra burden these developments will have on the local road structure and local services. Anymore and character of the area will become suffocated. • Need to preserve elements of village life and green space and not just make one big housing estate • Prevent villages from being small towns. There is nowhere in Wavendon Parish that can accommodate any further housing plans. • No more housing- we have 3500 new homes being built. The area is being crippled by overcrowding, traffic, noise, pollution, a loss of golfing facilities and a general lack of feel good. • No more housing - we have over 3500 new homes being built. The area is being crippled by overcrowding, traffic, noise, pollution, a loss of golfing facilities and a general lack of feel good! • Not important- We are currently set to be swamped by huge development by a421. This added to the enormous development at Parklands Woburn Sands is enough housing and will put enormous pressure on two communities who will cease to be the distinctive community they are currently. If you develop any further expanses of land as indicated on your potential map sites then you can make Woburn Sands/ Wavendon a suburb of Milton Keynes • Wavendon is close enough to Mk for people to commute. It does not need expanding Page 4 of 100 • I would consider with what has been thrust upon us the village can take no more, so outside of it is the answer to all the above. An area must be kept for a town hall when Wavendon is finally surrounded and becomes a town • Housing need should be met where it is required, not necessarily in the most attractive areas where developers can make more profit • The SLA will produce sufficient housing • Additional housing puts pressure on existing facilities and infrastructure. • Wavendon is being slowly ruined by more building and traffic • VI- There is no need for new housing development far too many developers are building houses that are left part finished and unoccupied • VI- Surely with all the developments already planned, providing they include enabling younger people to stay and older people to move into more suitable accommodation we have done more than our share already. The land included in the SLA being part of our share. Furthermore the local roads, particularly the Wavendon to Woburn Sands Road with the bottleneck of the level crossing cannot take the strain of yet more development • Wavendon Parish is as large as it can be already given the proximity of MK and Woburn Sands Developments if it is not to be swallowed up completely • There is enough house building in the local area, it is causing too much traffic, rat running through the village, overcrowded hospital and doctors. • A feel with all the development going on around the village i.e. making Wavendon not a village no more is needed therefore local people b,c,d,e and f are already being provided for. Feel this is often used by councils to build up their finances not noticing what is going on in their local area. Amazed when I realized how much money MK gets for each house • Opportunity for self build- At the moment there appears to be no facility for family to create their ambition to self build and put forward their individual ideas obviously with planning approval. There are many good ideas to be tailored into the house that is not built by larger conglomerates, to expand ideas. Also to provide work for local builders and the teams that they employ, this is turn is good for showing the skills of those builders rather than regimented boxes • Given the huge development within the SLA it is not clear that any other housing is needed in the Parish • There isn't any housing need within the village; local young people probably would find it a struggle to afford the mortgage required when they are on a Page 5 of 100 zero hour contract and crap hourly rates. Older people should not have to move, just adapt their homes. Local businesses? A glorified gastro pub!! As for infrastructure shouldn’t that come first? Any building within the village and on any available parcel of land would just cause overcrowding, congestion, noise, resentment, pollution etc • Given the huge expansion proposed in the SLA- only piecemeal development seems appropriate e.g. Brownfield sites) within one Parish • The SLA has taken all the available land, more than enough to supply our local needs, we will have absorbed more than enough to accommodate our local needs and our open spaces need protecting. The trade off with developers supplying/ contributing to works is taken for granted but is quite possibly fraudulent and could be seen as bribery • This question presupposes that we approve of further housing development, over and above the SLA. However, with the vast area of land to be developed under the SLA we think that further development is completely undesirable if any of the character of Wavendon village is to be maintained. We have therefore declined to fill in the above as that could enable you to justify additional large development. • I want the Parish of Wavendon to remain clearly separated by Green Fields. I will object to any development which threatens a change to the current situation • The fifth question sounds like you need to build houses in order to get money from developers for infrastructure. It doesn't bother me where the money comes from but the infrastructure is THE most important issue. Saying you are going to build X houses is annoying without mentioning what the extra infrastructure is going to be in order to support this. Not just roads: how many more GPs dentist places, shops, parking etc. • Maintain the character of the parish Page 6 of 100 About future housing development in Wavendon Parish, excluding the SLA, how concerned would you be about the following?
