Drive you nuts.” “Ungodly devotion to his ideals.” My imaginary friend said conversationally as it shifted it’s midnight black body a bit to get more comfortable. “Still, you think you’ve got this?” “I remember the cliff notes of the original show even after all these years.” I said with a smile. “I wanted to be a police officer because of Bulk and Skull, actually. I was really happy when I finally got into the academy, even when I failed I had tried and it felt good.” “You need to be ready.” The figment of my imagination said. “To guide them.” “Agreed.” I said as I continued to parse through my memories. “Alpha-5 is already preparing preemptively for Rita’s unsealing. I’d rather the Rangers have something to cut their teeth on before we hit the big leagues.” I never quite got what a book meant when I read something like ‘and then the hero felt a great evil awaken’ but Rita’s awakening was the moment I very suddenly understood the phrase. It was like I’d just dipped both my hands into a pile of vomit. There was a frank pause before the sheer toxic, sickening sensation that I knew bone deep was just a reaction shook me to my core. “Zordon,” I stood up quickly and in an instant I was within the command center a mere figurehead, true, but there for Alpha-5 as it finished it’s question, “did you feel that?” “Yes, Alpha-5, it would seem that we were not fast enough.” I said before I got to work. It annoyed me that Alpha-5 couldn’t tell I wasn’t Zordon, but taking his place was the best I could do. “We’re going to need five overbearing and overemotional humans.” “No!” The robot actually started to flail about waving its arms at that request. “Not that, not teenagers!” “It is the only way, old friend.” I tried to assure the mechanical being. “Ah I thought so.” Alpha-5 said with a note of sheer annoyance in it’s tone. Were I just a normal guy in Zordon’s place I would have been at a disadvantage but thankfully I had been gifted with a skill to be taken seriously when I spoke about the task at hand, which itself was a superpower. I also had access to more than just Zordon’s normal bag of tricks. Through Alpha-5 I had managed to set up some fallbacks for the Rangers, just minor things like upgrading the command center to be a bit more impressive, with Advanced Technology from the Sims helping on that front, and adding a dream pod system tailored to teach some of my more mundane, if heavily retooled, martial arts skills. While it would take someone with true talent for the art to actually master the One Finger Death Punch the techniques I learned alongside it during those years could be used to keep good people alive. I’d also sent out a signal to warn the peoples of Zordon’s homeworld of the eminent invasion in the next decade, though I’m not sure how much of a impact my warning had. The original team were unrealistic idealists if I really wanted to describe them. … Every single one of them were skilled, had great time management skills, and were generally good people both at their core and in what they allowed to be seen by others. In some ways I followed the script to the T, but in others I broke off to try my own path. While the initial meeting worked out generally how I’d expected it to, with the would-be rangers denying the power granted to them and then leaving only to get ambushed, them coming back injured actually taught me a lesson to not rely on the whole idea of the plot just keeping things in play. I felt the need to prepare for the worst so I spent weekends and evenings with the Rangers passing on my skill at teamwork and having them learn my marital arts via the Dream Pods, which also offset their study time too. Once the entire squad had accommodated to fighting the forces of evil together I pulled my first big gambit, I sent the lot of them go meet with Ninjor early. Either they’d manage to convince our best hope to give them a power-up and join the good fight or they’d at least make it known that the Earth situation was not totally under control. At the same time I had Alpha-5 create a series of Plumbots to carry out a few missions I had, to be exact the attempted theft of Serpentera, Zed’s personal Zord and the largest by far. This was a two fold plan, the Power Rangers heading off to get their power up would maybe mobilize Zed early, but the theft of his Zord would take away the one thing I feared with no reservations, his access to a planet buster WMD. Thinking of weapons that I’d rather have outside evils hands. “Alpha-5 how have the scans been going.” I asked as we were planning for the send off and theft. “I’m sorry Zordon but I couldn’t find the Sword of Darkness.” Alpha-5 replied. “It must have been lost during the battle ten-thousand years ago,” the robot paused for a moment before continuing, “however I have detected several artifacts of great power. Were it not for you asking for the comprehensive scans I wouldn’t even have noticed them.” I just nodded along as the robot did most of the work, seriously Alpha-5 was awesome at its job. “These are the items in question.” Displays shimmered in place within the Command Center as Alpha-5 worked the halo systems like it had been built for it. I gave each item a quick overview before nodding. “Very well, Alpha-5,” I spoke evenly as I kept my eyes on one weapon in particular that had a wide, thick blade that looked much more lethal in real life than the prop ever made it seem, “this is the one you’ll need to get. The others are needed where they are currently.” Mostly because the other devices were for plots of other Power Ranger teams and I wasn’t quite able to remember if those had to happen the way they did. “Yes sir, I’ll send the Plumbots.” Alpha-5 replied instantly. “Give me control of the Plumbots on the moon.” I said as I stared at the blade for a second longer before pulling myself away from it and then turning my mind back to the world through the visor of a Plumbot, now decked to look like a grey power ranger. Each was basically as strong as a putty patroller, which made sense since I had used my alchemical process to improve on the original design once I got here. The five bots had managed to get all the way into Serpentera’s primary charging station when they found themselves standing before the Emperor of Evil himself. Zed was intimidating, to say the least. The Emperor of Evil was a horrifying being to look at with a metallic exoskeleton holding up a humanoid muscular body but with no flesh. My eyes widened within the featureless plane as the scarlet lord of evil moved at ungodly speeds to completely crush a Plumbot in an instant. As in it responded by punching out at him and he just plowed his clawed hand through the attack to smash his fingers through the chest piece of the Plumbot in a rather spectacular show of violence. “Zordon,” the Emperor of Evil spoke and the air hazed slightly crimson around him, “I have to say this is a bold move for one like you. All my forces are tied up chasing after your little children and you manage something like this?” He loosed a vast swath of lightning and in an instant the other Plumbots were wrecked dolls melted into the walls of his castle. The one that I was in control of managed to dodge out of the way. “Hrm,” the menacing being turned towards ‘me’ and I took a deeper hold of the controls, “interesting. Let’s see how far your toy can push me, Zordon.” “Zed!” I shouted through the speakers on the Plumbot and the surprise of hearing his ‘old foe’ in person once more was just what I needed. I lunged as if striding past the horizon and slammed a snakelike punch into the Emperor of Evil’s chest with all the weight, speed, and energy in the machines body.
