Next issue published week beginning 22nd June 2015 MEASHAM MESSENGER Email: [email protected] Measham Karate Club Raise Funds for Rainbows Hospice MAY 2015 The above club’s 36 students (aged 6 – 47 years) recently took part in a sponsored kick challenge for the Rainbows Hospice. The children’s target was 500 karate kicks within 1 hour and the adults 1000 kicks in an hour. It was a very proud day for everyone at the club Inside this issue: and the achievement raised an incredible £536.78 for the children’s hospice, in recognition of the wonderful work that they do to ensure children and families are comfortable in the special remaining time left together. This year’s parade is promising to be full of music and colour, with the theme based around ‘’Disney’’. Look out for all your favourite Disney characters and music too. There will be over 6 bands in the parade Including Brass, Samba, Pipe and many more. These bands will not only play in the parade but will also perform in the showground arena. We will not just have floats and music in the parade but various types of vehicles, Fire Engine, Steam Engine, Tractors and loads more….. Once the Parade has moved down the High Street to the Leisure Centre Sports Fields, let the fun begin. We have The Lincoln Country Regulators. American History re-enactment group. They will be bringing there own village, that will be set up on the sports field, giving an insight on how and what went on back in the days of old. Also on the field we shall have various craft stalls, together with some great food and drink outlets. And how could we forget the Fair with some great rides. The Fair are promising to bring some additional rides. There will be fun and entertainment for all ages of the family. A first time for the Festival, music and song inside the Leisure Centre, provided by The Gresley Mens Choir. We have loads more to offer so come and Join us. Where else can you go that offers this and much more and is FREE TO ENTER! So please tell your Family, Friends and their Friends, to come and enjoy our Great Festival because without you and the people that sponsor us we could not make this possible. June will see the Guild hold their Guest Evening Event and July sees them enjoying an evening dinner. The next scheduled general evening will be Monday August 10 th at 7.00pm where visitors are welcome to come along for the small fee of 20p to join in the friendship and fun of the organisation. The meeting at Appleby Magna Church Hall on the 11 th June will see Sue Bradley giving a talk entitled ‘ My Trip To India’. The competition will be an item depicting India and hostesses will be Gwyneth Wicks and Jean Wightman. A raffle will be included. All Welcome! Measham Museum & History Group This month’s picture is a publication commemoration of the fallen of World War I of North West Leicestershire. The publication is on sale at Measham Museum. The next meeting is the 4th June at the Congregational Church, Kilwardby Street, Ashby de la Zouch at 2.00pm. The talk will be the history of stilton cheese. Measham Leisure Centre:- New Fitness Class – Metafit The above commenced on the 6 th May – no booking required, just turn up! Laura Wilkinson will be hosting this class at 6.00pm – 6.30pm and she also does the Zumbra class directly after. Tea Dance The Tea Dances take place every Wednesday between 1.30pm – 4.00pm and includes sequence dancing . There are hot drinks and biscuits available in the interval and cost is £3.50 per person. No booking required. Mini Dribblers The above runs every Thursday between 4.30pm – 5.30pm in association with the Midlands FA Soccer Academy. This is a fun soccer coaching session for the 2 – 6 year olds . There is no need to book. Just turn up! Cost is £2.80 each. Lasting Power Of Attorney – Coalville Library Drop In Session The above will be held on Tuesday 19 th May between 11.30am – 1.00pm and offers a guide to older people about a simpler way of looking after their finances. It is a guide to financial decisions in the event of accident/illness. The session is part of ‘Dementia Awareness Week’. Business Grants Available – NWL North West Leicestershire is offering grants ranging from £5,000 - £25,000 based in the district and that employ fewer than 250 personnel . The grants are to help fund and build projects that grow businesses and increase employment. Buggycise Course - Moira Furnace This course commences on Wednesday 3 rd June till Wednesday 8 th July between 10.00am – 11.00am.
