HOW TO GET TO KENSICO DAM PLAZA BY CAR: Kensico Dam Plaza is about one hour's drive north of New York City. Directions from The City, New Jersey, Rockland County, and New England accompany a map on the flip side of this page. BY TRAIN: Conrail trains regularly travel between Grand Central Terminal in New York City and White Plains (also North White Plains). Trains to Valhalla are infrequent. On Saturdays and Sundays, a 7:00 AM train from G.C. arrives in N. White Plains at 7:48 AM; an 8:00 AM gets in at 8:52 AM. From the N. White Plains station, take a pleasant 2-mile walk along a path by the river .to the Dam or grab a cab. The larger White Plains station is 3 miles from the site. Again, take a taxi. The one-way train fare to either White Plains or N. White Plains is $3.05; round-trip the same day is $4.60. Rates may increase slightly in August. BY BUS: Route 18 (Broadway/Columbus Ave) bus from Pleasantville goes to the Valhalla R.R. Station, which is about two hundred yards from the Dam. On Saturday a 7:30 AM bus arrives at 7:55 AM; an 8:15 AM arrives at 8:40 AM. On Sunday the earliest bus does not arrive till 11:40 AM. The one-way fare is 50 cents. BY PLANE: Those players winging it to either JFK airport or La Guardia airport can take a Carey Bus into Manhattan and make train connections at Grand Central. (See "By Train") From JFK: The Carey bus costs $4.00, runs every 20 minutes between 5:20AM and 12:30 AM, and stops at the East Side Bus Terminal at 38th St. and 1st Ave. A healthy 8-block walk or cab ride gets you to Grand Central. In light traffic, the Carey bus takes about 40 minutes from JFK. From LaG: Fare is $3.50 for a half-hour ride to either 38th St. and 1st Ave. or to Grand Central (41st and Park--actually 1/2 block away from G.C., which is on famous 42nd Street). Buses run every 20 minutes between 6:50 AM and 12:30 AM. By cab: For those with money to burn, a taxi ride from La Guardia airport into Manhattan costs about $12 with tip. From JFK a cab will cost about $21 with tip into The City. Costs vary with traffic density--try not to get stuck in rush hour. BY SUBWAY:Subways are great for getting around New York City, but they can't get you to the tournament site. If you stay with friends in the Big Apple, ask them for directions. Regardless of the length of trip, subways cost 60 cents, as do public buses. .. ...
