Katrine 4 Reflections by Revd Gregg Mensingh One of the sad things about the situation we find our- selves in at the moment are the number of church weddings in Botley, Curdridge and Durley that have been postponed until at least next year. Couples have had to make hard deci- sions with little or no information to go on concerning when reception venues and the like will be able to accommodate their parties. So with the advent of social distancing as the new normal, in view is the prospect of church gatherings with restricted numbers. For many, working out how their wedding can still be the big day they were expecting is understandably challenging. Recently, I’ve had conversa- tions with couples whose weddings I was due to take and I really sense their frustration. Come rain or shine, officiating at a marriage in church has always been something that I particularly look forward to. During wedding preparation, there's always a humorous conversation about the weather. “Can you put in a good word for us Vicar. Can you guarantee good weather or not?” I say that I will take a full credit for fine weather, but deny all knowledge if it’s poor. Of course everybody knows that no church can offer its ministry with that kind of guarantee, but what kind of warranty can we give then? What kind of “or your money back” guarantee can we market ourselves with? Well, there is this guarantee: one sure thing which stands the test of time and eternity. The guarantee is that God loves us and will be with us always no matter what hap- Above: The gate is open, come on up….. pens. You are very welcome to come inside, but if you do: Please enter by the South Door (by the Yew Tree) and leave by the West Door (the Bell Tower door). Please keep your social distance from other people inside the church and please only sit in the pews marked “Reserved”. The pews will be cleaned after each use. Donations are very welcome, and please leave them in the basket on the counter or in the Donation box.
