The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Associate Dean for Honors Carolina will discuss the hallmarks of a Carolina education and exciting Honors Carolina learning opportunities, on campus and beyond. 9:50–10:45AM* ....... Go Anywhere with Honors Carolina Alumni Hall, George Watts Hill Alumni Center Our most important responsibility at Honors Carolina is preparing students to succeed once they graduate. Our dedicated Honors Carolina Advising and Career Guides will discuss the resources and programs designed to help Honors Carolina students learn how to market their skills and obtain relevant experience that will position them for success. Additionally, you will learn about more than a dozen Honors global programs—including internships, fellowships, research opportunities, and study abroad programs—that immerse students in new cultures and ways of learning. 11:00–11:50AM ....... Academic Advising and Student Success Alumni Hall, George Watts Hill Alumni Center Learn about academics at Carolina, including student responsibilities and resources that can contribute to your student’s success. Groups 1–10 More Than Just a Major Academic Interest Session FPG Student Union Come learn about the ways your student’s academic journey at Carolina will be “more than just a major.” Both advisors and Orientation Leaders will share their insights in these sessions and offer tips on specific expectations of your student’s area of interest, co-curricular activities, academic resources, and more. Sessions will focus on students’ first-year. Business Auditorium, FPG Student Union At this session, you will learn about prerequisite courses that students must complete before applying to the Kenan-Flagler School of Business. Information on the application process and co-curricular activities will also be presented. Fine Arts/Humanities Room 3206A/B, FPG Student Union Whether you are studying Music or English, explore myriad opportunities that can complement and enhance your coursework and help you prepare for a career or graduate studies. Partners in Transition Great Hall, FPG Student Union Sending a student to college is a transition for the entire family. Senior leadership from Student Affairs will discuss ways in which you can partner with Carolina to support your student towards graduation. Also, Orientation Leaders will highlight typical challenges that new students and family members often face during the first year. 3:15–3:35PM ....... Student Stores Open House Daniels Student Stores Take a few moments to get to know the official university bookstore, home to Bull’s Head Bookshop, the Tech Shop, the Pit Stop, the Daily Grind, and more. 3:40–4:30PM ....... The Carolina Community Great Hall, FPG Student Union During this session, parents and family members will be given an overview of polices that set expectations for student behavior at Carolina. Additionally, presenters will review on-campus resources that support student well-being and success, as well as discuss strategies for engaging with your student about these topics. 4:40–5:10PM* ....... Campus Safety Great Hall, FPG Student Union The safety of our community is the highest priority at Carolina. Leaders from the Department of Public Safety and Student Affairs will discuss important campus safety initiatives, resources for students, and how we all contribute to a safer Carolina. 5:10–6:30PM* ....... Student Services Snapshot Great Hall, FPG Student Union Learn more about various student services, including the Office of the University Cashier, UNC One Card Services, Information and Technology Services, and Carolina Dining Services. 6:30–7:20PM* ....... Dinner Top of Lenoir Dining Hall Enjoy dinner with other students and Carolina families, OL staff, and Honors Carolina Orientation Hosts. 7:45–8:45PM ....... Carolina Skies Morehead Planetarium At 7:30PM, meet the Orientation Staff outside of Lenoir Dining Hall and walk to Morehead Planetarium. Relax in the Morehead Planetarium Star Theater for a showing of Carolina Skies, which will surround you with thousands of stars, constellations, and planets. It is a UNC-CH tradition that is out of this world! 6 Day Two Schedule Residence Hall Check Out: If staying on campus, families and guests should check out of Everett Residence Hall between 7:00AM and 5:30PM. Please note that students must check out of their rooms by 8:30AM; however, families and guests may remain in their rooms until the end of the Orientation program. Please discard all trash and return your key and flex pass to Cobb Residence Hall. If you choose to check out early on Day 2, staff in Cobb will show you where to store your luggage until you are ready to pick it up at the end of the program.
