His research focuses on pedagogical development and language and literacy practices in technology-rich environments. His interest in pedagogical development lies in understanding the complexities of expertise, learning and technology in multilingual and multicultural contexts of higher education. Elina Jokinen, PhD, is a lecturer at the Language Centre. She has a special interest in writing as an academic profession and the creative process for art and research. She also has extensive work experience in the world of literature and publishing houses. Her current work involves developing pedagogy for writing in an academic context and coaching and mentoring writers struggling with their first academic essays as well as those more experienced writers who publish their research results for wider audiences and through different media. Peppi Taalas, PhD, adjunct professor, is the director of the Language Centre. Her current research interests are educational and organisational change processes on both policy and practical levels, including change in learning and teaching cultures, staff development and teacher roles, and attitudes in technology-enhanced language learning settings. She has been involved in many national and international research and development projects on the knowledge society, teaching innovation and the future of education. She is currently vice- president of Eurocall. Contributors Merja Almonkari, PhD, is a senior lecturer at the Language Centre. She has expertise in the study of political communication, communication skills and emotions as well as in the pedagogical development of speech communication courses for academic purposes. Fergal Carolan, MA, is currently a lecturer of English at the Language Centre. He primarily teaches academic reading, academic communication skills and academic writing at both the basic and intermediate levels. His interest in pedagogical development lies in understanding the uses and limitations of ICT, such as online learning platforms, in the academic writing process. Johanna Eloranta, MA, is a lecturer at the Language Centre. Her research focuses on internationalisation and integration, especially in the contexts of higher education and second language learning. Her interest in pedagogical development lies in learning and teaching Finnish as a second language in an academic setting. She is also involved in national and international collaboration related to second language pedagogy. Camilla Jauhojärvi-Koskelo, MA, is a lecturer in Swedish at the Language Centre. Her research focuses on motivation and attitudes towards studying Swedish among university students. She has also been involved in developing a barrier-free Language Centre. Adrienn Károly, PhD, is a lecturer at the Language Centre. She has 15 years of teaching experience in higher education (in Hungary and Finland). Currently, she teaches English for Academic/Specific Purposes and research communication courses at all levels. Her main research interests lie in the intersection of foreign language learning and teaching, translation studies, language policy, multilingualism, intercultural communication and education. Her current research focuses on improving instructional (particularly feedback) practices in higher education. Lotta Kokkonen, PhD, is a lecturer at the Language Centre. Her research focuses on interpersonal communication relationships and social networks.
