Sterckx Jo. Beelden van Polen en Midden- en Oost-Europa in de Neder- landse cultuur [The changing image of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe in Dutch media and culture]. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. Poznań 2016. Pp. 189. OWAD 7. ISBN 978-83-232-3043-4. ISSN 2450-9817. Text in Dutch with a summary in Polish and English. The book analyzes the image of Poland in the Dutch press (part one) and the image of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) in Dutch culture (part two). Because the cultural image forms the central point, a wide variety of primary sources has been selected, in agreement with contemporary perspectives on imagology and cultural studies. The image of Poland in news magazines is the subject of the first and second chapter. The third chapter treats the image of labor migrants (2000-2010) in news media and chapter four discusses CEE’s im- age in television programs. The fifth chapter focuses on the image in travel guides and inter- cultural hand books and the final chapter on contemporary literary nonfiction, a genre which has positioned itself strongly in the Dutch literary canon.
