2018-19 SwachhBharatAbhiyan-AsteptowardsCleanliness Venue : Vallathol Nagar Date : 21-07-2018 Chief Guest : Smt. Padmaja P (Vallathol Nagar Grama Panchayath President) Swachh Bharat Mission or Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission is a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. With the focus on Clean India; beautiful India, our unit organised Swachh Bharat survey in association with Vallathol Nagar Grama Panchayath. Volunteers collected necessary details regarding sanitation and was handed over to Panchayath authorities. The survey was based on household cleanliness and waste management. It was a platform for the volunteers to interact with very large section of the society and understand different spheres of life. Covered more than 500 houses as part of the survey conducted under PM’s Swatch Bharath Abhiyan program. Our respected Principal Fr. Dr. Jaison Paul inaugurated the official function. He delivered the inaugural speech and covered his thoughts and ideas about the importance of cleanliness and waste management. He highlighted the various methods our college is practicing in proper waste disposal. He also encouraged the students to include the idea of waste management in their projects and develop an effective method for separate disposal of bio and non bio degradable wastes. MedicalCamp Venue : GLP School, Cheruthuruthy Date : 24-07-2018 Chief Guest : Mr. Shareef N.M (Panchayath Secretary, Vallathol Nagar Grama Panchayath) Medical camps was arranged with a sacred aim to bring awareness amongst the deprived population of the country who have no access to basic healthcare services or knowledge about the diseases they are suffering from. Volunteers made the necessary seating arrangements and set up various stalls for distribution of different medicines. A stall for refreshment was also made. The medical had doctors from Allopathy, Ayurveda and Homeopathy departments. Necessary medicines were also distributed free of cost in the camp itself. CollegeInductionCeremony Venue : Campus Date : 1-08-2018 Chief Guest : HG Mar Andrews Thazhath (Arch Bishop, Thrissur Archdiocese) To welcome the new batch of Engineering students, a grand induction ceremony was organized in the campus. Our volunteers managed the event with great spirit. The freshers were introduced about National Service Scheme, its activities and importance. They were shown in and around the college and campus. Cultural programs were also a part of the event. WomenEmpowermentProgram Venue : College Date : 3-08-18 Our Indian culture has always respected women. She forms the center pillar of every households. The role that a lady plays in the society is immense. But there are several problems faced by the present day women. To address these issues and to make them strong enough, a session was organized. The program was a great success with the quality and large number of participants. CleanPoliceStationProject Venue : Cheruthuruthy Police Station Dates : 8-08-2018 9-08-2018 Chief Guest : Mr. V.P. Shibeesh (Sub Inspector, Cheruthuruthy Police Station) The volunteers of our unit initiated a Clean Police Station Project to improve the cleanliness of Cheruthuruthy Police Station. Police station is a place where people from all sections report. Improving hygiene of this public location is of great importance. Moreover, making the police station neat and clean attracts the attention of large number of public. This addresses about the importance of keeping our public places and surroundings neat and clean. The police officials supported the activity. Indeed, it was a great experience for the volunteers to interact with the police group in a very friendly manner. A short inaugural speech was delivered by Mr.V.P. Shibeesh (Sub Inspector, Cheruthuruthy Police Station). He encouraged us to be active in more such activities and uploaded our initiative to conduct such a cleanliness drive. Our beloved principal Fr. Jaison Paul also spoke a few words as the official function was kept to a minimum time. IndependenceDayobserved Venue : Jyothi Engineering College Date : 15-08-2018 Chief Guest : Fr. David Nettikadan To ignite the flames of patriotism in young minds, Independence Day was observed in the college in a very simple manner. The Tricolour National Flag was hoisted. On the occasion, the Program Officer addressed about the role of NSS volunteers in Nation building and keeping up the integrity of the incredible India. FloodReliefwork;AHelpinghand Venues : Thrissur, Cherpu, Vallathol Nagar, Edathuruthi, Eriyad, Panjal Dates : 24th August 2018 – 2nd September 2018 Chief Guest : Smt. Mary Thomas (President, Thrissur District Panchayath) Our state witnessed the most dangerous floods of the century in August 2018. It affected all the spheres of living. Several people lost their shelter partially or fully, many were shifted to rehabilitation camps. Volunteers of our unit and a large number of students and staff members from the college whole heartedly participated in various flood relief activities to show their commitment towards the society. They engaged in preparing power banks, collecting, packing and distributing food grains and necessary items like cloths, medicines to the people who are in need of it. Another great initiative was theF loodrelief-RapidVisual Inspection surveyat various locations with the support of COSTFORD and Local Self Government Bodies. The volunteers also took up the task of cleaning houses after flood taking all precautions and safety measures. Personality development sessions, interactive classes, leadership training, communication classes,and several other workshops were conducted. An NSS volunteer should achieve holistic development, for which orientations play a crucial role. SwachhtaHiSeva Venue : Shornur Railway Junction Date : 22-09-2018 Cleanliness drives and waste collection drives were conducted all over the country in all Central Government institutions and other public places in connection with Swachhta Hi Seva observance. The NSS volunteers of Jyothi engineering college also become a part of this mission by cleaning the Shornur junction railway station along with the railway officials. It urges us to keep our premier public facilities like Indian Railways neat and clean as they reflect and represent the state of our whole country. The government institutions must be example for the common people to uphold the importance of cleanliness. NSSDay2018 Venue : Jyothi Engineering College Date : 24-09-2018 Most respected Principal Fr. Dr. Jaison Paul raised the NSS flag in the presence of respected Fr. Roy Joseph (Assistant Manager, Jyothi Engineering College), NSS program officer and students. The NSS volunteers proudly sung the NSS anthem together. The principal give a speech about the utilization of NSS unit for the betterment of society and encourages NSS volunteers to work more for the society. The assistant manager Fr Roy Joseph advised the students to concentrate more in social service and advised all students to involve in social service in their locality. The flag hosting ceremony ends with national anthem . The NSS volunteers gathered and jointly cleaned the college premises to make the college surroundings clean and tidy. The students actively participated in these work which reflected their commitment to make environment clean. The NSS volunteers become a role model for the remaining students of Jyothi engineering college in making their own premises neat and tidy. This will encourage all. students to continue such activities. GandhiJayanthiCelebration Phase1 Venue : Vallathol Nagar Grama Panchayath Date : 2-10-2018 Chief Guest : Dr. Suresh A V,Vallatholnagar Grama Panchayath Medical Officer Mr. Mohandas, Vallathol Nagar Health Inspector NSS volunteers of Jyothi engineering college celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi by conducting a cleanliness drive in the Vallathol Nagar Grama Panchayath. A short official orientation session was organized. A cleanliness pledge was taken and then the NSS volunteers cleaned the premises of Vallathol Nagar Panchayath office. They also took the mission of cleaning and maintaining the solar panels installed at the top of the building.
