Duke advances to the winner’s bracket of the PK80 Motion Bracket and faces the winner of the Butler/Texas game tomorrow at the Moda Center at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Blue Devils are 3-0 all-time versus Butler and 4-0 versus Texas. Today’s game was Duke’s 229th when playing as the No. 1-ranked team under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, breaking a tie with UCLA’s John Wooden for most games coached as a No. 1 team in NCAA history. Duke improved to 200-29 in those games. Duke played its 155th game as the nation’s No. 1-ranked team in the AP poll since 1998. That figure is 74 more than the next closest school (Kentucky) during that time. Coach K’s record at Duke improved to 1,004-271 in his 38th season. His overall record improved to 1,077-330 in this, his 43rd season. Duke extended its streak of at least one made three-pointer in a game to 991. It is the nation’s fourth- longest active streak. The Blue Devils improved to 3-0 all-time when playing in the city of Portland, Oregon. Their previous two visits came in 2010 and 2000, respectively. Duke matched its season-high in points with 99. The Blue Devils have scored 92 or more in four of six games this season. Duke trailed Portland State, 49-45, at the half. It was the most points allowed in the first half by the Blue Devils since trailing North Carolina, 49-42, at the half of last season’s ACC Tournament semifinal. Duke yielded 32 points in the second half to Portland State and 34 to UNC. Both games ended in Duke victories. Duke attempted 42 free throws in the game, its most attempts since 43 vs. UNC-Wilmington (3/17/16). Freshman forward Marvin Bagley III recorded his fourth double-double in six games, scoring 18 points with a career-high 15 rebounds. Bagley III is the ninth Duke freshmen in history to record 15+ rebounds in a game. The most recent being 17 rebounds by Jahlil Okafor at Notre Dame (1/28/15). Bagley III’s four double-doubles through the first six games are the most by any Duke freshman in history, surpassing the three by Mike Gminski in the first six games of the 1976-77 season. Freshman forward Wendell Carter, Jr., posted his third double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He was 7-of-8 from the field, had two assists and two blocked shots. Each of Duke’s nine double-doubles this season have come from freshmen (Bagley 4, Carter 3, Duval 2). Senior guard Grayson Allen, with 14 points and nine assists, finished an assist shy of his fifth career double-double. Freshman guard Trevon Duval set a career-high in points for the second straight game, scoring 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 at the free throw line. Sophomore center Marques Bolden grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds and matched his career-high with three blocked shots. With eight points, he was two shy points shy of his first career double- double. .
