July 2, 2020 RE: 17 Mile Drive & Beach Closures – Friday July 3 through Sunday July 5, 2020 Del Monte Forest Residents: As we prepare for the upcoming holiday weekend, the well-being of our community is top of mind. During his press conference yesterday, the Governor discussed the rising cases and hospitalizations associated with COVID and issued guidance to help the state stabilize and slow the spread of the virus. In particular, he stated state park beaches would be closed this holiday weekend, and he urged counties to evaluate potential beach closures as well. We met today with state, county and local officials, as well as local healthcare leaders and the California Coastal Commission staff, to agree upon consistent beach closure plans across our local communities. Based on these meetings and the input we received, we have decided to close 17 Mile Drive to all outside traffic from 12:01am Friday July 3 through 11:59pm Sunday July 5, except for the following: • Residents with the property gate emblem/pass. • Contractors, service providers and guests of residents will only be allowed entry through the gates if the resident places their names on the gate list. Unlike a normal week, contractor and service provider passes will NOT be accepted for gate access this holiday weekend. If you are expecting guests, or your contractor or service provider needs access, please call (831) 625-8428 to place their names on the gate list. • Confirmed hotel guests, and those with dining, golf, or Spa reservations, will be allowed access. Please make an advance reservation if you plan to enjoy our resort facilities this long weekend. Beach Club and Spanish Bay Club members will have access as well with the proper credential. • Members and guests of Cypress Point Club, Monterey Peninsula Country Club and Poppy Hills Golf Course will be allowed access. Students, faculty and staff of Stevenson School will also be allowed access. • Pedestrians and cyclists will also be allowed entry. • Uber/Lyft rideshare services with the appropriate app verification will be allowed entry. Over the holiday weekend, we plan to fully staff the gates, and have all lanes open as much as possible. We will do everything we can to keep vehicles moving; however, you may experience some wait time as our staff verifies credentials and turns away tourists and those without clearance. Regarding Beach access, all lookout points, turnouts, beaches and beach parking will be barricaded and closed to visitors, residents and guests. No walking, picnicking, or sunbathing on the beaches will be allowed. Similarly, beach access for water recreation, like swimming, surfing, kayaking, and fishing, etc., will NOT be allowed. The coastal walking path along 17-Mile Drive and the Del Monte Forest hiking and equestrian trails will be open. While this 4th of July will be unlike the traditional celebrations we’ve always enjoyed, these precautions are necessary to help reduce opportunities for social gathering and minimize the spread of COVID. Nothing is more important than the health of our community, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and support. As always, please feel free to contact Dawn Mathes ([email protected] or 625-8402) or me ([email protected] or 622-6450) with any questions. Sincerely, Bill Perocchi CEO, Pebble Beach Company .
