Date of Issue: 6 August 2020 Celebrating National Day Safely on 9 August 2020 NDP2020: Together, A Stronger Singapore 1. To mark our nation’s 55th birthday, the National Day Parade (NDP) 2020 aims to bring NDP into every Singapore home. Apart from the morning parade at the Padang and the evening show at the Star Performing Arts Centre, NDP2020 will also be brought into the heartlands, through the Red Lions, mobile column, aerial flypasts and firework displays. These activities will also be broadcast live over television and radio channels1, so Singaporeans can enjoy them from the comfort and safety of their homes. NDP2020 Activities Red Lions 2. The Red Lions will be landing at two heartland locations at around 9.00am (weather conditions permitting): a. Open field along Toh Guan Road, near to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital b. Open field along Sengkang East Road, near Sengkang General Hospital State Flag Flypast 3. Following the flypast at the Padang, the State Flag will be flown across Singapore via two routes, from about 10.30am to about 11.25am: a. The Eastern Route will begin at the Padang at 10.35am, and will fly along the southeastern and northeastern coastlines of Singapore. b. The Western Route will begin at the South of Singapore at 10.30am, and will fly along the southwestern coastline and then the western areas of Singapore. 1 Singaporeans can tune in to the live broadcast on (i) TV: Channel 5, Channel 8, Channel U, CNA, Suria, Vasantham,; (ii) Online:, Channel 8 and CNA YouTube channels, meLISTEN, meWATCH; and (iii) Radio: CAPITAL 958, CNA938, Oli 968, Warna 942. Roar of Unity 4. As a tribute to frontline fighters and everyday Singaporeans, six F-15SG fighter jets will fly in a delta formation across Singapore in four passes, beginning at the Padang at 10.45am and ending at Paya Lebar Airbase at 11.15am. Mobile Column 5. The mobile column will bring assets from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), into the heartlands from around 10.00am to around 1.00pm. About 100 frontline fighters and essential workers will be aboard the mobile column assets as they make their way throughout Singapore. While the mobile column will not be stopping, Singaporeans are encouraged to wave the flag from their homes to salute them for their spirit and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The maritime sailpast, comprising 13 vessels from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Police Coast Guard, Republic of Singapore Navy and the Singapore Civil Defence Force, will be conducted from 10.50am to about 11.15am, and can be viewed from the Marina Barrage and the Marina South Pier. Fireworks 7. To conclude NDP2020, fireworks will be launched at ten locations across Singapore at around 8.20pm after the Pledge Moment, and will last for about five minutes. The locations are designed to maximise viewership from homes across Singapore. Residents in the nearby estates may also be able to view the fireworks from their homes. The locations are as follows: a. Ang Mo Kio b. Bishan c. Buona Vista d. Jurong Lake Gardens e. Marina Reservoir f. Punggol g. Sembawang h. Tampines i. Woodlands j. Yew Tee A Safe NDP2020 8. Singaporeans can view and enjoy all of the NDP2020 activities, and support the NDP2020 participants, from home. To manage crowds and ensure safe distancing, vehicular and pedestrian access to the areas where activities will be held, will be limited. 9. Members of the public who view the activities at public spaces are to wear masks, remain in groups of five and less, and maintain one metre safe distancing. SAF, SPF and AETOS personnel, safe distancing ambassadors and safe distancing enforcement officers, will be present on-site to guide the public. 10. Members of the public who are participating in the Anthem and Pledge Moments in public spaces are encouraged to sing and recite along in their hearts, instead of out loud, to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. Closures and Restricted Activities 11. To facilitate the conduct of the activities and ensure public safety, the following areas will be closed to the public: a. Venue Closures. (1) Closed from 7.00am to 9.00pm: (a) Esplanade Park (b) Empress Place (2) Closed from 11.00am to 9.00pm: Lakeside Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens (3) Closed from 4.00pm to 9.00pm: (a) Bay East Garden (b) Marina Barrage (c) Promenade along Gardens by the Bay (d) Promenade along Singapore Flyer (e) Youth Olympic Park (4) Closed from 5.00pm to 9.00pm: (a) Bayfront Event Space (b) Clifford Square (c) Esplanade Outdoor Theatre (d) Esplanade Roof Terrace (e) Jubilee Bridge (f) Merlion Jetty (g) Merlion Park (h) One Fullerton Waterfront Promenade (i) The Lawn @ Marina Bay (j) The Promontory and Waterfront Promenade b. Pedestrian Walkway Closures. (1) Closed from 4.00pm to 9.00pm: (a) Lions Bridge (b) Marina Barrage Bridge (c) The Helix Bridge (Passage through only) (d) Walkway along Benjamin Sheares Bridge (e) Walkway along Sheares Ave (f) Walkway under Bayfront Ave connecting The Float @ Marina Bay and Singapore Flyer (2) Closed from 5.00pm to 9.00pm: Walkway on Esplanade Bridge towards Nicoll Highway c. Public Carpark Closures. (1) Closed all-day: (a) Singapore Flyer Carpark (Level 3 and above) (b) The Float @ Marina Bay Carpark (2) Closed from 4.00pm to 9.00pm: (a) Bay East Garden Carpark (b) Marina Barrage Carpark (c) Satay by the Bay Carpark (2) Closed from 11.00am to 9.00pm: (a) North Carpark at Jurong Lake Gardens (b) South Carpark at Jurong Lake Gardens 12. From 8.55am to 11.30am, the conduct of all aerial activities including kite-flying, hoisting of captive balloons and flying of unmanned aircraft including drones into and within the temporary Restricted Area, unless authorised by Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, will be prohibited. The public is also advised not to be alarmed by increased noise levels on 9 August due to flying activities and fireworks. 13.
