Welcome back once again to Maesdu Park ahead of our first home game of the new year, and it’s been a mixed start to 2020 with two draws from two games, but it’s clear to see that injuries haven’t helped out cause! We should have taken three points at Conwy being two goals ahead in the last twenty minutes, but we were lucky against Corwen, being on the opposite side of things. We welcome some new faces, and we’ve announced this week four new signings that all in contention to play a part against Buckley today. We hope 2020 is a positive year for the club and as always, a big thank you to all volunteers who have helped so far, and will continue to do so this year! Enjoy the game, let’s hope for the three points! Geraint Roberts Head of Media IT’S ALL ABOUT WINNING! The club was formed for the purpose of providing activity for cricketers during their close season. SA full international Wales v Ireland was played on the “council field” in 1988. Llandudno were founder members of the Welsh National League (North) in 1921 and were champions in 1923 and League Cup winners in 1930. The club won the N.W.C.F.A in 1926 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1929. Controversy struck the club in 1931 when the F.A.W instructed them to play East Wales, which Llandudno refused and were suspended. Llandudno were also founder members of the Welsh League (North) in 1935 and remained in the league until war broke out in 1939 and then re-joined in 1945 up until 1974. Llandudno were league champions in 1936 and repeated the feat the following season, in addition the club regained the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1948 and 1962, the Alves Cup in 1951 and the Cookson Cup in 1965. The club moved to its current home at Maesdu Park in 1991 after the “council field” was used for the construction of the ASDA store in the late 1970’s, now the new Parc MBi Maesdu. The current ground was officially opened in 1991 and floodlights were added in 1994. The following season saw the erection of a clubhouse and two small stands which provides covered seating for 130 spectators. The club has then went under major transitions, with the addition of a new press box, built by local lad Cyril “Ciz” Williams who tragically died while construction was ongoing, and it is surely a testament that such a great number of friends were determined to finish his work and the building stands as a fitting memorial to this wonderful man. In the 2004/05 season the current dressing rooms were built, and the grandstands with disabled access. In the 2014/15 season major developments continued with the addition of a brand new entrance foyer, fitted with an educational suite, and a state of the art 3G pitch alongside the introduction of a thriving community arm, and for the first time in the clubs history Llandudno Football Club earned promotion into the Welsh Premier League. The club then reached an agreement with sportswear giants Adidas to be their official kitwear supplier until at least 2017, along with major kit sponsors from W.R. Davies Renault and the UPVC Outlet. The good news didn’t stop there as more redevelopments took place around the ground with the introduc- tion of a brand new TV gantry and 75 seater stand. At the end of the 2015/16 season, and in Llandudno’s debut year in the top tier of Welsh football, we gained automatic promotion to the Europa League after a third placed finish. Llandudno had earned themselves a tie against two time European Cup Winners IFK Goteborg in the first qualifying round, on- ly to be outmuscled 7-1 on aggregate, with Danny Hughes the name in history scoring for his hometown club. An experience the club and the town were extremely proud of, and one that will never be forgotten as we look to replicate it year upon year. All this wouldn’t be possible without the support and the dedication from our tirelessly working volun- teers, and so here you find us as one club, one community. LLANDUDNO FC MANAGER’S MESSAGE OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome once again to Maesdu Park for this afternoon Cymru North league game against Buckley Town. It was great to see so many fans here at our last home game against Colwyn Bay, a game I felt that we where unlucky to loose after recovering from a slow start to take a 2-1 lead at after time, only to let it slip in the second half. Since then we have had two very tough away games with a depleted squad due to suspensions and injuries. The players showed great character away to Conwy in our 3-3 draw there on New Years day, again just letting slip a lead to concede an equaliser in the last minute, but the effort and attitude on display made me proud as a manager. We then faced a very tricky trip to Corwen in tough condi- tions and after falling behind 2-0, managed to salvage a point with a spirited second half performance. What has been pleasing to see is the emergence of some of the academy players into the group. Morgan Thomas, Kieran Edwards (returning from a spell at Llan- dudno Junction), Adam Montgomery and Alex Roberts (who scored against Corwen) have all been involved and done exceptionally well. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Dan Moore and his side today. When we played Buckley earlier in the year they came out on top 2-1 in a competitive game. We know what to expect from Buckley, and know that this is once again going to be a really competitive game, but it is one that we are all looking forward to after what’s been a tough festive period. In terms of squad news, we are delighted to welcome back Dean Seager and Scott McHar- rie after serving their suspensions. Danny Hughes also looks set to return to fitness in time for the game and we are also hoping to have Alfons back in the fold. We also have a couple of transfers in the pipe line that may well have cleared in time for the game. Sam Downey has decided to move on to pastures new with Cowlyn Bay, while we are all disappointed to loose Sam at this stage of the season, we understand that this is football, we will crack on. I hope you all have a great afternoon. The Seagulls initially took the lead in the first twenty minutes after a defensive error led to a chance for Sion Edwards, which he took well. Captain Danny Hughes gave Llandudno a reply just eight minutes later after he headed home from a cross. It got even better for Llandudno not long after when a delightful lob from Alfons Fosu-Mensah deceived the Bay ‘keeper to loop into the net and give us the lead. Llandudno looked in control, until the 65th minute, when Mitch Bryant tapped home from a Joe Chaplin cross, leaving Shaun Pearson with no chance to stop the equalizer. Assister turned goal scorer on the 71st minute when Chaplin beat a defender to rifle a shot into the net and give Bay the lead to break Dudno hearts.
