Beginning April 1, 2016, all licenses must be returned to CPW or postmarked at least 30 days prior to the start of the season for which they are valid in order to be eligible for a refund or preference point reinstatement. A $15 processing fee will be charged on all refunds except for youth licenses or in the case of CPW error. Preference point restoration requests are exempt from the processing fee. Refunds or preference point restoration requests after 30 days prior to season start are limited to extreme medical circumstances, death of license holder or license holder’s immediate family member, military deployment or CPW error; the processing fee will not apply. A license cannot be recovered once it has been returned to CPW. Limited licenses that are returned may be available for purchase. Information on how to purchase returned limited licenses will be available after July 1, 2016. New changes to hunter education requirements in Colorado will begin on April 6, 2016. There will be a new test-out option available for the hunter education certification requirement as well as an apprentice license for new hunters. Hunters age 50 or older or U.S. military personnel defined as active-duty, reserve-duty, veteran and National Guard can test out of the hunter education requirements by creating a customer identification
