Cranhill Development Trust, 109 Bellrock Street, Cranhill Community Café Health and Safety Requirements – In response to a recent environmental health inspection, funding is being sought for essential health and safety works to the kitchen. Dennistoun Amateur Football Club, 280 Onslow Drive, Dennistoun Equipment – Funding is sought to purchase training equipment for the football club: Brief description of proposal Training balls (15) £254.25 Match balls (3) £119.85 Water bottles and carrier (1) £22.95 The group meets in Whitehill Secondary on a Tuesday and Thursday evening and on Saturday afternoons. 25 people regularly participate. Dennistoun Community Council, Dennistoun, Glasgow Dennistoun Treasure Hunt – Dennistoun Community Council is proposing to run a Treasure Hunt with the 4 primary schools in the area (Alexandra Parade, Golfhill, Haghill and St Denis’). The first stage is a competition for children to design the certificate given to every child that later hands in a completed entry form to their class teacher. The second stage will take place over September Weekend (17-25 September). Entry Brief description of proposal forms are distributed to all local school children and they then locate anomalous objects in the windows of local shops. Funding is sought for vouchers to provide to the winning boy and girl from each school and for the child who produces the winning certificate. Around 1,000 local primary children will be involved. High Carntyne Parish Church, 358 Carntynehall Road, Carntyne High Carntyne Church and Community Hub (Stage 1) Urgent Works to Roof – funding is Brief description of proposal sought to contribute to urgent roof works to High Carntyne Church. Areas Covered High Carntyne Total cost £15,000 £5,000 Church of Scotland General Trustees Other funding £5,000 High Carntyne Church (tbc) Amount Requested £5,000 The church is creating a multi-purpose community hub and worship space within the existing building. The project will enhance the existing space and facilities available for new and existing community groups. The church building is currently in poor condition, particularly the roof. In order to protect the church building from further water penetration and fabric deterioration in the short term and prevent excessive costs in the future, these works have been identified as a priority. The proposal has been identified as a follow on from the Options Appraisal carried out in 2010 which was funded by the Area Committee. Summary of assessment The building is used by a number of local community groups for a variety of purposes, as well as a place of worship. This proposal will allow local community groups to continue to use the building and in the longer term, the multi-purpose hub will bring a wider community benefit. Due to limited funds available, the full amount requested has not been recommended. The applicant can be advised to make a further application later in the financial year if funds are still available. Riddrie Bowling Club, 90 Smithycroft Road, Riddrie Kitchen Refurbishment – Funding is requested to upgrade the kitchen within the bowling club to a more professional standard that meets all health and safety guidelines and complies with environmental health demands. Brief description of proposal Works include new flooring, new wall and base units, worktops and sink, gas interlock to ensure gas equipment is only operable when ventilation system is in full operation, ventilation canopy, electric fryer, flykiller, water boiler, dishwasher, refuse bin, freezer and fridge. Areas Covered Riddrie Total cost £19,045.20 Other funding Applicant £5,174.20 Amount Requested £13,871 The applicant intends to open a community café and provide a facility for local people to hire for private celebrations and events. The facility will in the short term be run by volunteers however in the longer term, employment opportunities may be available. The club has received an increase in requests from the local community for catering for events and functions. Summary of assessment The facility should be available for use by the wider community and not only club members. External assessment awaited from City Building. The proposal represents a low risk and high impact. Due to limited funds available, the full amount requested has not been recommended. The applicant can be advised to make a further application later in the financial year if funds are still available. Recommendation £2,000 The facility should be open to all members of the community and evidence of this should be provided. Specific Conditions Award is subject to a satisfactory officer assessment from City Building. Match funding to be secured. 6. West of Scotland Regional Equality Council, Napiershall Street Centre, 39 Napiershall Street, Glasgow Glasgow Youth Challenging Hate Crime – WSREC proposes to deliver workshops on hate crime awareness on race, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity and disability to young people aged 14-18yrs within secondary schools or local youth group settings across Glasgow on a preventative basis. Methods of reporting incidents, including 3rd party reporting will also be covered in each 2 hour workshop. The project will operate on a reactive basis with no set programme and the experienced Development Officer will tailor activities to suit the audience. The target audience are not specifically perpetrators of hate crime but the sessions prevent the participants from forming views and opinions that could Brief description of proposal potentially lead to intolerance and hate crime. The officer will work closely with Strathclyde Police Diversity Team, Head teachers of the local secondary schools, the Crown Office, Procurator Fiscal Service and Glasgow Community Safety Services. Funding is provided to the group by the Scottish Government to deliver programmes across the Strathclyde area. However statistics over a five year period for Glasgow show an ongoing increase in hate crime therefore the creation of an additional part time development officer post within WSREC will assist the organisation to contact secondary schools and local youth groups, create interactive workshops suitable to the audience, forge links to create local Forums and to signpost young people to other groups within the area with a similar interest. The applicant will also identify suitable youth groups in the local ward in conjunction with Partnership and Development and Glasgow Life. Following an evaluation of the project WSREC may implement a second phase to the remaining area committees.
