TEXAS STATE PARKS San Jacinto Battleground STATE HISTORIC SITE GULF COAST San Jacinto Battleground STATE HISTORIC SITE This 1,200-acre park includes many interesting features in addition to the towering San Jacinto Monument and the San Jacinto Museum of History. At this site in 1836, Gen. Sam Houston led the Texas Army to victory over Mexican forces commanded by Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The decisive battle marked the birth of Texas’ independence. Also moored at the park is the Battleship Texas (BB35) — the only surviving Navy warship that served in both World Wars. Interpretive Markers/Trail: interpretive markers trace the Battle of San Jacinto and the Marsh Interpretive Trail highlights the natural features of the site. Fishing Birdwatching Texas State Parks Store: One-of-a-kind gifts, books, etc. Special Attractions: “Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto,” shown at the Museum of History, is a 35-minute theater presentation that depicts the Texas Revolution and the historic battle.
