The US$6.83-million SWATCH FIVB World Tour is scheduled over an eight-month period starting in April in Brazil and ending in November in Thailand. The US$380,000 Otera Open is the 11th women’s event on the 2010 SWATCH FIVB World Tour calendar. After staging the ConocoPhillips Grand Slam June 28-July 4 in Stavanger, the second Norwegian event will be in Kristiansand as the southern resort city hosts the international Beach Volleyball circuit for the fourth-straight season. The television coverage for the 2010 SWATCH FIVB World Tour will feature 55 broadcast companies across the world. The coverage covers six macro-regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the, Middle East) with IMG the FIVB’s partner for TV distribution and production. A total of 134 “live” matches and 21 highlight programs have been and will be produced and distributed throughout the season offering increased access to each SWATCH FIVB World Tour event. The 2009 international Beach Volleyball season saw an increase in international broadcasters from 24 in 2008 to 39 in 2009 when more than 1,600 total hours of primary footage of events were broadcast around the world. · A new Mikasa ball, the VLS 300, will be used after being introduced at 2009 season-ending events in Sanya and Phuket. WORLD TOUR UPDATE - The SWATCH FIVB World Tour leaders captured the season’s last Grand Slam events in Poland with the pairs of Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers of the United States and Juliana Felisberta Silva/Larissa Franca each winning their fourth “major” event in 2010. For the Americans it was their seventh title in 2010 to tie a men’s single-season international record for gold medal in a year. Three Brazilian teams have won seven men’s titles in a single-season, including Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos twice in 2004 and 2007. Roberto Lopes and Franco Neto established the record in 1995 with Emanuel and Jose Loiola matching it in 1999. On the women’s side, Juliana and Larissa won eight gold medals last season with seven titles for the Brazilians in 2006 that was matched by Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in 2007. Dalhausser and Rogers set the mark for men’s SWATCH Grand Slam titles in a season after topping the podium this year in Italy, Norway, Switzerland and Sunday in Poland where the Americans defeated Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann
