The No 46 bus will return you to Farncombe rail-station from Shackleford at the end of this first, 5 mile section. There is an hourly service during the day from Monday to Saturday (NO SUNDAY SERVICE.) At the end of the station access road, cross Summers Road and bear to your right before turning immediately left into St John's Street. 2 0.030 (If you want some refreshment before starting your walk, Farncombe cafes and shops are close by on your right. Cafes and shops 3 0.080 Opposite The Coop supermarket, turn left onto the footpath in front of the church. 4 0.178 Cross The Oval/Fern Road and continue forward along the footpath. Cross the main road (there is a light-controlled crossing slightly to your right) and continue forward into Catteshall Road. 5 0.369 (The Leathern Bottle pub by the crossing provides another refreshment point.) Pub 6 0.432 Immediately after crossing the river bridge, turn right through the gate and follow the path across the meadow. 7 0.921 Bear right through the gate and follow the path beside the church to the road. 8 0.982 Turn left to cross the river bridge. Page 3 No Miles Turn Directions 9 1.016 (Godalming town centre is in front of you. It is an attractive and interesting town to explore and provides a wide range of cafes, pubs, restaurants and many other shops.) To follow the walk, cross Bridge Road at the roundabout. Cafes, Pubs and shops 10 1.035 As you cross the road, look slightly to your right for the steps down and follow the Riverside Walk through the Phillips' Memorial Park. 11 1.348 Just past the bowling club pavilion, bare slightly left away from the river making for the exit from the park. (Ignore the path that turns sharply left by the bandstand.) Page 4 No Miles Turn Directions 12 1.418 Cross the road and do a slight left-and-right to enter the Vicarage Walk footpath next to the bus-stop. 13 1.480 Turn right into Westbrook Road. 14 1.521 Go under the railway bridge and turn left onto New Way 15 1.814 Follow the paved track round to the right (ignoring the footpath to the left) then continue up the hill (ignoring the entry to a property on the right.) 16 1.996 Continue up the hill ignoring the footpath to the left. Turn sharp left at the New Way sign (ignoring the footpath to the right) and continue 17 2.199 along Halfway Lane (unsigned.) 18 2.699 Turn right onto Eashing Lane 19 2.844 Continue along Eashing Lane round the sharp left hand bend. Page 5 No Miles Turn Directions 20 2.985 Look out for the white, timber-framed cottage on the right and turn right into the footpath that runs by its side. Go over the stile and forward across the field. 21 3.147 Go forward and down to cross a stile. Then bear left to follow the path running through the woods a little above the river. 22 3.250 (Rest point - there is a seat by the river. For refreshments, divert left 100 yards along Lower Eashing to the nearby pub, 'The Stag on the River'.) To continue the walk, cross the river bridge. Seat and pub Continue along Lower Eashing to the busy A3 dual-carriageway. 23 3.454 (The service station on the left has a small Spar supermarket and Deli counter.) Convenience store Page 6 No Miles Turn Directions 24 3.458 Turn right up the ramp to cross the A3 via the footbridge. 25 3.607 Go through the gate and bear right to follow the footpath close to the edge of the field 26 3.867 Go through the gate and then forwards (ignoring the footpaths to the left and right.) 27 4.182 Cross Elstead Road to rejoin the footpath on the other side. Rest point. Seat. 28 4.318 Seat Page 7 No Miles Turn Directions 29 4.392 Turn right onto Peper Harow Lane. Ignore the footpath that continues in front of you. (Take care; this and the previous junction look very similar. Don't turn too soon!) (The Cyder House Inn is a comfortable and spacious, family run pub offering a good range of food and drinks. You will be welcomed by landlord and landlady, Tony and 30 4.694 Emma. Note: The Cyder House Inn is closed on Tuesdays.) Pub Continue to the triangle where Peper Harow Lane, The Street and Greville Road meet. (The Post Office, which opens in the mornings, is also a small general store. Small quantities of most provisions are available: milk, bread, eggs, tinned foods, green 31 4.786 groceries, magazines, greeting cards, stationery and sweets as well as post office and cash services.) Shop The No 46 bus stops at the triangle. There is a large shelter with seats where you can wait. If you are returning to Farncombe, make sure to catch the bus that is bound for Guildford. The 46 bus towards Farnham approaches from the same direction and arrives at about the same time as the Guildford bound bus! 32 4.787 From Monday to Saturday there is an hourly service between 09:04 and 17:04 with an extra bus at 18:29. There is NO SUNDAY SERVICE. (These details were noted on 23 May 2017. Do check an up to date timetable before setting off. There are also some early morning busses.) Bus stop 33 4.790 Page 8.
