Additional telephone plug in boxes are provided (connected to the train control circuit to Muswellbrook) at each of the releasing switches at Sandy Hollow, Karrabee, Coggan Creek and Ulan. 4.2 Air Breathing Apparatus for Use in Bylong Tunnel Operators must ensure that persons who travel in the lead locomotive of a train hauled by two or more diesel locomotives are trained and are in possession of approved self-rescue air breathing apparatus. The equipment owner should have their own procedures for use of the Air Breathing Apparatus. They must also have in place a procedure for evacuation from the tunnel and a safe working procedure for work within the tunnel. Operators must ensure that no person is permitted to travel in any cabin other than the lead locomotive cabin unless they are equipped with, and wearing, approved breathing apparatus while in the tunnel. On approach to the Bylong tunnel, train crews must close all locomotive doors and windows and switch off air conditioning units. Except in an emergency situation, Network Controllers must not signal trains into the tunnel if it will result in a train stopping with its locomotives inside the tunnel.
