If so, one or more of The Transfer One Book deadlines have passed. No worries! Complete all the past due steps to prepare for your transition to JMU. Please finish all the steps, even if Transfer Summer Springboard dates have passed. Congratulations! We are excited for you to join us, but you still have some work to do. The steps on the following pages are specifically designed to help you successfully transition to James Madison University. Decisions can be tough and we want to make sure that your decision to transfer to JMU is well-informed. Depending on the type of institution you are transferring from, you may have a different experience than other transfer students. Make no mistake – things at JMU will likely be different from your previous institution. Your level of ease experienced in your transition can be affected by following the outlined steps and our advice. Consider the following: If you are transferring from a two-year institution: ◆ Advanced preparation and follow-up are absolutely necessary! ◆ Attending Transfer Summer Springboard – our one-day Orientation program – is essential for enrolling in the appropriate classes. ◆ If you are transferring with a completed associate degree from a Virginia community college, make sure you know the specific degree you are completing (AA, AS, AA&S, etc.). Your academic advisor will be able to assist you with this information. ◆ It will take the entire summer to get things in order for your first day of classes. It is not in your best interest to wait until August to decide you want to attend JMU or notify us that you need to enroll in fall classes. If you are transferring from a four-year institution: ◆ We understand that you’ve been through a traditional first- year Orientation program. We’re not trying to recreate that experience. Our Transfer Summer Springboard program is specifically focused on the issues and concerns you will have as a transfer student. ◆ JMU might be larger or smaller than your previous institution. ◆ You will likely have some General Education courses to complete. ◆ Your major of interest may have different admission requirements.
