He married Susanna Stover on July 23, 1821, in Giles County, Virginia. Susanna was the daughter of Jacob Stover and Sarah McGhee. She was born about 1807 in Franklin County, Virginia, and died March 27, 1879, in Raleigh County. Children of John Williams and Susanna Stover are: 1. Eliza Williams was born August 28, 1822, in Clear Fork, Giles County, and died in August 1905 in Raleigh County. She married John Stover on September 19, 1839, in Fayette County. They were married by the Reverend Matthew Ellison. John was the son of Obediah Stover and Massey Stanley. John was born about 1820 in Virginia and died about 1852 in Virginia. Children of Eliza Williams and John Stover are: -1 Emily Stover, born in December 1841 in Fayette County, married Joseph Phillips on September 23, 1855, in Raleigh County. They were married by the Reverend Claiborne Curtis. Joseph was born in June 1834 in Jackson County, Ohio. -2 Mary Jane Stover, born February 11, 1840, in Raleigh County; died January 16, 1918. She married Robinson Williams on September 11, 1856, in Raleigh County. They were married by the Reverend Claiborne Curtis. Robinson was born in November 1838 at Sand Branch, Fayette County, Virginia. He died October 5, 1928, at Long Branch, Fayette County. -3 Ruhama (Mahala?) Stover, born 1846, married Jim Roberts. -4 Elicia (Leticia) Stover, born November 1850 in Raleigh County, married first William Pace on December 12, 1867, in Raleigh County. They were married by the Reverend Claiborne Curtis. William was born about 1845 in Henry County, Virginia. Elecia married second Leonard Williams on September 13, 1874, in Raleigh County. They were married by John Kincaid. Leonard was born November 12, 1852, in Raleigh County, and he died December 17, 1915. -5 Aletha "Letha" Stover, born March 10, 1852, in Raleigh County; died January 12, 1920, in Raleigh County. She married George Washington Treadway on April 2, 1868, in Raleigh County. George was born May 23, 1847, at Lower Loop Creek, Fayette County, and died July 1, 1931, near Beckwith, Fayette County. 2. Alethia "Letha" Williams was born December 3, 1824, in Clear Fork, Logan County, Virginia, and died July 18, 1891. She married Canada Smith on October 12, 1843, in Fayette County. They were married by the Reverend Matthew Ellison. Canada was the son of Jacob Smith and Susan Campbell. He was born January 14, 1820, in Virginia. He died October 10, 1882, at North Sand Branch, Raleigh County. Children of Alethia Williams and Canada Smith are: -1 Child Smith. -2 Francis P. "Frank" Smith, born October 1844 in Virginia, married Sarah J. "Sallie" Warden on May 24, 1870, in Raleigh County. Sarah was born February 11, 1849, in Virginia. She died January 25, 1921, at Mt. Hope, Fayette County. -3 Letitia Smith, born about 1845 in Fayette County, died in 1931. She married William "Bub" Prince, Jr., on October 4, 1866 in Beckley, Raleigh County. They were married by Alfred Beckley, Sr. William was born about 1843 in Fayette County, and he died about 1928. -4 Eunice Smith, born November 30, 1847, in Fayette County, Virginia, died December 13, 1888, in Raleigh County. She married Matthew Allen Ellison, M.D., on November 20, 1872, in Raleigh County. The marriage ceremony was performed by his dather, the Reverend Matthew Ellison. Matthew Allen Ellison was born October 11, 1841, in Fayette County, and died January 25, 1905. -5 Louisa Smith, born October 1849 in Fayette County, died February 16, 1936, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bertie Tyree, near Prosperity, Raleigh County. She married James D. George, Jr., on October 28, 1869, in Raleigh County. The marriage was performed by A. J. Carper. James was born about July 1847 in Brunswick County, Virginia. He died about 1924. -6 Enoch Smith was born about 1851. -7 Isabella Smith, born September 10, 1853, in Raleigh County, died May 13, 1868. -8 Adaline Smith, born March 31, 1856, in Raleigh County; died December 12, 1940, at Pax, Fayette County. She married Garland Williams on August 19, 1878, in Raleigh County. They were married by William E. Feazell. Garland was born October 12, 1857, in Raleigh County; he died December 25, 1944 at Long Branch, Fayette County. -9 Washington Smith was born about 1860. 3. Nancy Williams was born February 13, 1827, in Clear Fork, Logan County, Virginia, and died February 21, 1887, in Raleigh County. She married Joseph "Joe" Smith on December 24, 1846, in Fayette County VA. Reverend Matthew Ellison performed the marriage. Joseph was the son of Jacob Smith and Susan Campbell. He was born October 27, 1822, in Virginia, and he died in Raleigh County. Children of Nancy Williams and Joseph Smith are: -1 Amanda "Mandy" Smith, born January 18, 1848 in Raleigh County; died March 24, 1924, according to her tombstone. She married Christopher Columbus "Chris" Thompson on April 8, 1879, in Raleigh County. They were married by George W. Carper. Information for the marriage license was given by C. C. Thompson. Sarah married second John Sampson Cook on December 15, 1861, in Raleigh County. 3 John was the son of James Cook and Docia Meadows. He was born January 15, 1813, in Virginia, and died June 19, 1899, in Raleigh County. Children of Sarah Williams and William Phipps are: -1 Clarkson (Fipps) Phipps, born October 1, 1845, in Beckley, Fayette County, Virginia, died March 6, 1935, in Beckley, Raleigh County. He married Elizabeth Margaret "Eliza" Lively on April 20, 1874, in Fayette County. Elizabeth was born March 3, 1854, in Fayette County, and died April 6, 1955, in Beckley. -2 Sarilda (Fipps) Phipps, born November 12, 1849, in Raleigh County, died January 18, 1923.
