Walk-ins and resident sticker parking only. Wingaersheek Beach (5.4 miles) Atlantic St., off Concord St., West Gloucester Flour soft white sand, tide pools, lighthouse views, calm water. Lifeguards, food, changing rooms, fee for parking. Parking lot fills up early on summer weekends. Lighthouses Annisquam Lighthouse Gloucester Built in 1897. A Coast Guard family lives at the station, which is closed to the public. The lighthouse is visible from Wingaersheek Beach and from parts of Annisquam. Eastern Point Lighthouse Gloucester At the entrance to Gloucester Harbor, sits a spectacular 2,250’ granite jetty, known as DogBar Breakwater, or just the Breakwater. Visitors can enjoy the walk to the end, with lovely views of Gloucester Harbor on one side and the open ocean (and the Boston skyline) on the other. The lighthouse station itself is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and is closed to the public. The breakwater next to the lighthouse is open all year, with good views of the lighthouse. There is a fee for parking in the adjacent lot owned by Mass Audubon, as part of the Eastern Point Wildlife Sanctuary. Ten Pound Island Lighthouse Gloucester Built in 1821 to help mariners find their way into Gloucester’s inner harbor, Ten Pound Light can be seen from many points along the waterfront. Thacher Island Twin Lighthouses Rockport Located on Thacher Island, the two towers, “twin lights” were built in 1771 and are the only currently operating twin lighthouses in America. The castle was constructed as a wedding present for his wife Irene Fenton Hammond to prove how much he cared for her. In addition, the building housed the Hammond Research Corporation, from which Dr. Hammond produced over 400 patents and the ideas for over 800 inventions. Second only to Thomas Alva Edison in number of patents, John Hammond was one of America's premier inventors. His most important work was the development of remote control via radio waves, which earned him the title, "The Father of Remote Control."
