Burkhart is only four strikeouts away from the ASU career record of 893, held by current ASU pitching coach, Kirsten Voak. She is also only fi ve strikeouts away from tying for 10th place all-time in career leaders for the Pac- 10 with Jennifer Spediacci of Washington. Burkhart also topped another ASU record last year as she beat Kirsten Voak’s single-season strikeout record of 316 with 420 in the 2006 season. She also claimed a career fi rst perfect game against Notre Dame at the Judi Garman Classic March 15. 2007 Sun Devil Softball Week 8 • Mar. 25- April 1 2007 Page 3 2007 NFCA POLL Sun Devils to watch The Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body MARCH 14 of Softball in the United States, has selected its initial “Watch Rank Record School List” for the 6th Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of 1 33-2 Tennessee the Year Award. This award, which is considered one of the most prestigious honors in women’s collegiate softball, is designed to 2 28-3 Texas A&M recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate 3 31-3 Alabama softball players across the country. Already on the list for this sea- son are junior pitcher, Katie Burkhart and sophomore First-Team 4 36-3 Oklahoma All-American, Kaitlin Cochran. The pair was also named to the ESPN.com Pre-season All-American List. 5 24-7 Arizona* 6 31-5 LSU Burkhart has also claimed Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors twice already this season, the fi rst week of the season and is the 7 34-7 Arizona State* current holder of the award.
