Franchi has been named the executive director of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association, a national association that includes 1,025 universities and colleges. CCMA is based on the campus of the University of Dayton, which operates the largest campus ministry office on any Catholic campus in the country. It's committed to fostering the professional development of campus ministers and promoting the mission of the Catholic church in higher education. Franchi, of Cincinnati, has worked for the last eight years at Xavier University, where he served as regional director of development from 1990-1996 and director of major gifts from 1996- 1998. As the director of development for Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati from 1987-1990, he oversaw fund raising, marketing, alumni relations and public relations. For six years, he has worked as a volunteer in young adult ministry for the archdiocese of Cincinnati. He holds a B.S. in communication arts from Xavier University, where he is pursuing a master's degree in theology. "The experience of being involved in Catholic education since the age of 7, as both student and administrator, has had a profound impact on my development as a- person, the development of my relationship with God and my commitment to and involvement in. the Catholic church," Franchi said. "The role that the church can play in the lives of students is one that I take very seriously because I have experienced its impact first-hand." CCM...A. is committed to continuing education and spiritual programs for new and experienced campus ministers, advocacy for campus ministers at the national level and networking opportunities, according to Franchi. The association is currently planning the campus ministry Jubilee 2000 Celebration in which Catholic students, faculty and campus ministers will gather to begin shaping the face of campus ministry for the next century. "The need for the church to have a vibrant presence in the lives of the country's 5 million Catholic college students is greater than ever," he said. "I'm excited about the opportunities CCMA has to better focus the church on serving its future leaders, as well as doing all we can to provide resources for those entrusted with carrying out the church's mission on college campuses." -30- For media interviews, contact Ed Franchi at (937) 229-4648.
