The Spinaway was also her first career win, after finishing second in her debut, a maiden special weight at Parx Racing. Her most recent start came in the Frizette Stakes (G1) Oct. 10 at Belmont Park, where she finished second. • Won a Breeders’ Cup race in his first attempt when Afleet Again upset the 2011 Marathon (G1) at odds of 41-1 for owner Kasey K Racing Stable. Afleet Again had lost his last 13 starts prior to the Marathon. • A year later, Reid sent Poseidon’s Warrior to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Santa Anita Park on behalf of Swilcan Stable, where the horse finished 14th. Two starts prior to the Breeders’ Cup, the son of Speightstown earned Reid his first Grade 1 victory as a trainer when he took the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga. • Reid has trained for owner Charles Zacney’s Cash Is King LLC for a decade and the partnership has produced some high-profile successes including Maximus Mischief, who impressed with a 2 ¼-length victory in the Remsen Stakes (G2) in 2018. • This year’s class of 3-year-olds has been fruitful for Reid and Cash Is King, led by Project Whiskey, the winner of the Delaware Oaks (G3) and Monday Morning QB, who won the Heft Stakes last year as a juvenile and ran second in this year’s Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico. • Worked under his brother, Mark Reid, who was a perennial leading trainer at Parx, then Philadelphia Park, in the 1980s. • Worked various jobs at Playboy Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from 1979 to 1982 before deciding he wanted to go back to the racetrack. • Took out his trainer’s license in 1983. • His first starter and winner was the New Jersey-bred Slady’s Slug. • Reid’s first two graded stakes wins came courtesy of Groscar, who won the Lamplighter Handicap (G3) and Choice Handicap (G3) in 1990. • Based at Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, where he keeps a stable of about 25 runners. • Serves on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association. .
