International Women’s Day Ending Violence Against Women and Girls: Youth As Agents of Change Friday, March 8, 13:00-15:00 Room XXIV, Palais des Nations, Geneva According to the report of the UN Secretary General submitted to the Commission on the Status of Women for its 57th session, an estimated 7 in 10 women worldwide have been subjected to physical and/or sexual violence. This alarming figure underscores that violence against women and girls remains one of the most pervasive violations of human rights. Even as these tragedies still occur as has been observed in recent events around the world, there has been remarkable activism to combat these crimes and to raise awareness on these issues. Transformative change, which challenges the practices, customs, traditions and stereotypes which perpetuate violence against women and girls, is essential to end this scourge. Youth have an important role to play in this regard, and in many places around the world have already demonstrated remarkable commitment and taken action to prevent violence. Join us for an interactive discussion with inspiring youth representatives on their efforts to address violence against women and girls, and on how their potential to effect positive change can best be harnessed.
