Stan Frownfelter is the current representative who has been a strong supporter of public schools. A NOTE ABOUT THE CURRENT KANSAS STATE LEGISLATURE Republicans currently hold a supermajority in both the House (67%) and Senate (72%), meaning there is no check on one party’s power; they alone can override the governor’s veto. Recently, Susan Wagle, the Republican Senate President outlined a plan to redraw district maps in a way that would prevent a democrat from winning a US House seat in Kansas, for the next 10 years. Because the remaining moderate republican legislators in JOCO (endorsed by many of the groups above) were defeated in the primary, the only way to stop Kansas republicans from gerrymandering district maps, is to end the supermajority by electing more democrats to statewide offices in 2020.
