I was fortunate to be in a training program for high school religion teachers which required me to teach 6 differed grade levels--7th-12th grade--including a class of rowdy, disinterested juniors. Initially, I was lost but then I understood that students in the different age groups had different levels of ability to think and understand as well at different maturation lev- els. With those insights, the students and I blossomed and a whole new exciting world appeared. A class of jun- iors, who would frequently throw things at me when I was writing on the blackboard, became a group of students who became very interested and interactive and asked if we could have mass and a voluntary discussion group one night a week. That experience convinced me that a Catholic high school education is essential to the spiritual growth of our stu- dents and the life of the church. While I would love to be back in the trenches with the students, God has given me a different role. I am to help ensure that our vital work with teenagers continues. By having students from oth- er countries and faiths, we can better prepare our students to live in our complex and challenging world. The reality is that we cannot achieve our goals without your help. We come together for the auction to celebrate our mission at St. Bede and more importantly to do all we can to ensure our young people better understand their faith and thrive in a global world. Without you we could not continue our mission. On behalf of all at St. Bede, I say may God bless you. Pray for us as we do for you. PRESENTING SPONSOR J. A. HAPP FAMILY FOUNDATION SPIRIT OF ST.
