Jon Mirtschin B.Eng (Honors)/B.Sci, University of Melbourne Director Geometry Gym Pty Ltd, Victoria Jon graduated with a double degree majoring in Structural Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Melbourne in 2001. He commenced his career at Connell Wagner (now Aurecon) helping design, document and construct projects such as Eureka Tower, Melbourne Cricket Ground Northern Stand Redevelopment and Wembley Stadium (London). Following he travelled to London working at Expedition Engineering on projects such as 2012 Olympic Games Velodrome and Infinity Bridge. In 2009 he started Geometry Gym providing software developments providing interorability primarily in the form of plugins for popular applications in the AEC industry including Revit, Tekla, Rhino3d, Grasshopper3d, Navisworks and various Structural Analysis applications. Jon has a proven track record in achieving practical outcomes using openBIM standards and technologies. He has opensourced his C# IFC toolkit for reading and writing IFC files (https://github.com/jmirtsch/GeometryGymIFC) and taken a leading role on prototyping technologies such as ifcjson and applying version control such as git to an ifc repository. He is a member of the Building Smart International Model Support Group, providing sample files for the technical documentation and testing proposals for IFC improvements. Jon would bring technical and practical openBIM experience to the Building Smart Australasia Board, that would help facilitate a stronger awareness and successful adoption of openBIM for clients and projects in Australia. In 2018 Jon supported the Building Smart Australasia board with organization and execution of the “Getting It Right” technical workshop series. .
