Moyle Rovers and Clonmel Commercials are contesting the final for the second year in a row with Moyle Rovers this year being the defending champions having taken the crown from Commercials last year in their first County Final. We wi~;h both teams well and also the Minor teams from Inane Rovers and GoldenlKilfeacie who will play the Co. "A" Championship semi~final replay as a curtain raiser. On behalf oJ the Ardfinnan Football Club, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to our club grounds today for what should prove to be a great footballing occasion. Today sees the current County Champions, Moyle Rovers, take on their great rivals, Clonmel Commercials, in a repeat oflast year's County Championship decider. There are all the ingredients for a great curtain-raiser between GoldeniKi/feacle and Inane Rovers in what should be a very interesting County Minor semi-final replay. I wish the four teams well in thier respective games today and finally I would like to wish Paddy Russel and Seamus Roche and their officials well in contributing to what should be afeast offootbali Freddy Quinn, Chairman, Ardfinnan Football Club Ardfinnan Football Club Ardfinnan G.A.A Club was founded around 1907. In its early yeaB the club did not achieve much success. In 1935 the club won its first senior championship and this was repeated in 1939, The sixties saw the club enter its most successful era with five South and three County titles. From 196810 1974 the club contested all county senior finals and won two. Current Lao;s manager, Babs Kealing, played a starTing role for the club in those successful years. At juvenile level the club has been very successful having won South Championship in all gradcsand County Championship at U-21 and U-I4. In 1993 the club won the All-Ireland U I4 Pei! os nOg competition and brought great honour and glory to the club. In 1995 the County U- 16 title and the U-12 South Championship in 1996. In 1983 the club purchased 6 acres of land and devcloped it into this playing field here today_ A covered stand, four dressing rooms and car park were developed and were officially opened in 1988. The field is now a credit to all concerned and in one of the fincst in South Tipperary. Finally, we would like to thank all who have supponed us here today and in the past. REFEREES Senior Final- Paddy Russell One of the top referees in the country, he has been refereeing since 1975. He officiated over last year's AII~/reland Football Final between Dublin and Tyrone. He comes from Emly in West Tipperary. Umpire!!: Dal?' Crowe, Lar O'Keef/e, Gerry Cummins, McllOlas Lonergan. Minor Semi-final Replay - Seamus Roche Seamus is from the Kilsheelan Club. He is one of the best young referees in the county. He refereed U-21 and Minor hurling finals in South Tipperary and U~21 and Minor Football semi-jinals in County Tipperary. He is also a playing member with his club, Kilsheelan. BUiOCHAS Today is an historic day for our club as we host the County Football Final for the first time, also the County Minor Football semi-final replay. It is nice to know our venue is considered suitable to hold two great games and is some reward for all Ihe time and effort put in to make il so.
