All three neighboring empires had a view toward the post- War universe and none of them wanted the WYNs to become (8CM148f) DESIGNER’S NOTES a major player. It was known that the WYNs were building a This scenario was written new for Federation Commander modern fleet out of all proportion to their defense needs. The by Stephen V. Cole. Kzintis were concerned that the Kzintis inside the WYN Clus- ter would try to overthrow the Patriarch. The Klingons were concerned that all of those political dissidents they had clev- erly deported to the WYN Cluster were likely to try to return and disrupt the Empire. The Lyrans, a feudal society in which one count or duke did not trust the others and the King-Em- peror didn’t trust anyone, did not want the Lyran rebels who had fled to the Cluster to return and rearrange the Game of Nobles that kept the Empire in balance. (8CM148a) NUMBER OF PLAYERS Two: The Lyran player and the WYN player. (8CM148b) INITIAL SETUP Map: Set up the map with three panels across and two panels high if using small hexes (four wide and three high if using large hexes). The map is a “fixed map.” Any ship which leaves the map has disengaged and cannot return. Lyran: One police cutter deployed anywhere on the map. WYN: One DDX enters the map from the left (01xx) edge at the Start of Turn #1. It suffers from the effects of passing thorugh the WYN Radiation Zone (6D). See the WYN mission objectives. Lyran Reinforcements: These enter the map from any edge or edges at the start of Turn #6: Lyran CW, DW, POL, and police flagship. (8CM148c) OBJECTIVE Mission-WYN: Leave the Cluster, move off the map on the 42xx map edge, return four complete turns after leaving the map (during which time the ship will meet with an Orion pirate and obtain vital items), and then successfully exit the map on the 01xx map edge (re-entering the WYN Cluster). Mission-Lyran: Destroy or capture the WYN DDX to shut down their blockade-running operations. Time Limit: The scenario continues until all ships of one side are destroyed or disengage or until the end of Turn #10. (At that point, more Lyran ships would finally reach the area and it would be much harder for the WYNs to prevail.) Victory Conditions: If the WYNs complete their mission, they win. If the Lyrans complete their mission, they win. (8CM148d) SPECIAL RULES None. Communique #162-June 2019; Copyright © 2019 Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc.
