It will provide you with the latest jobs and business news from across the region and highlights a selection of the latest regional vacancies on our job site, RightJob. Regional Overview This region covers the geographical area that includes; Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire (West), Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and South Wales. The region has the highest percentage of rural land of any English region, three quarters of the total land area being agricultural. The largest city is Bristol. Other major urban centres include Plymouth, Swindon, Gloucester, Exeter, Bath, and the South East Dorset conurbation of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. The most economically productive areas are Bristol, the M4 corridor and South East Dorset which are all areas with the best links to London. South Wales is made up of Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Newport and Cardiff. The areas of highest job density are centred around Cardiff, and along the M4 motorway that runs through Newport, Cardiff and on to Swansea. The major urban areas are Cardiff, Swansea and Newport. Cardiff and the wider Vale of Glamorgan are the significant economic areas in South East Wales. Cardiff city relies principally on the retail, finance, media and tourism sectors and has experienced major regeneration particularly in the city centre and around Cardiff Bay. Each of these areas has its own varying set of employment factors which you need to take into account when job searching. Who can apply? The age restriction for Development Awards in Wales has changed! Now young people from 14 up to age 30 (25 outside of Wales) who are not in full time employment (16 hours a week or over) or full time education /training (14 hours or over) can apply for a Development Award with The Prince’s Trust. Boeing Defence UK told staff yesterday it plans to base its UK operations at the Ministry of Defence airbase eight miles north of Salisbury. The leading manufacturer of commercial and military aircraft is looking to expand its UK workforce from 1,300 to 4,000 by 2025. And approximately 1,500 of those jobs will be based at Boscombe, the Journal understands. Read more © Career Transition Partnership 2017 Flybe welcomes new boss and reports solid trading figures Regional airline Flybe has recorded solid quarter figures in tough trading conditions. The Exeter based airline has continued to grow revenue in Q3 and has welcomed a new chief executive. Christine Ourmieres-Widener was appointed on January 16. She said: "I have only just started work as CEO at Flybe. However, everything I have seen so far confirms my excitement at the opportunity we have to become the best regional airline in Europe. There is much to be done, but we have the firm foundations needed to develop the business. My first priority is to look to rebuild passenger unit revenue and to challenge all our costs.
