DIGGER – Index Editions 1 to 21 (October 2002 to December 2007) Page 1 of 65 +Editors: Craig Laffin (Editions 1 – 8), & Graeme Hosken (Editions 9 – 21) Edition (1) – October 2002 (2) – April 2003 (3) – August 2003 (4) – November 2003 (5) – December 2003 (6) – March 2004 (7) – June 2004 (8) – September 2004 (9) – December 2004 (10) – March 2005 (11) – June 2005 (12) – September 2005 (13) – December 2005 (14) – March 2006 (15) – June 2006 (16) – September 2006 (17) – December 2006 (18) – March 2007 (19) – June 2007 (20) – September 2007 (21) – December 2007 Page numbers were not printed in DIGGERs 1 to 7. Consequently, some entries in this index are referred to edition numbers 1 to 7 only. umbers printed in bold type and semi-bracketed “8)” or “19]” are Edition numbers; “3-6)” indicates Editions 3, 4, 5 & 6 inclusive; In normal type “12” are page numbers. Keys used: (A) = Article, Feature, short or comic piece etc. (E) = Etched in Stone (Editions 1 to 7 only) (F) = footnote (ill) = illustration (M) = map (P) = photo (PHS) = photo headstone/grave Dates immediately following names are death dates. Partial date ‘ /6/17’ indicates that death occurred in June 1917. Words in italics only are book, lecture, magazine, newspaper names etc. Words in ‘quoted italics’ are Memorial, ship, aircraft, horse, vehicle names etc. Words in “quoted normal type” are property, house etc names or general quotes. Words such as Australia, Anzacs (generic), AIF, World War 1 etc appear on almost every page and are not indexed, unless specifically required as an identifier. eg: Australian Army; Anzac Cove; AIF Headquarters etc. AIF Units also appear after the alphabetical index. Abbreviations used for Australian States: ACT = Australian Capital Territory, NSW = New South Wales, NT = Northern Territory, QLD = Queensland, SA = South Australia, TAS = Tasmania, VIC = Victoria, WA = Western Australia. [NZ = New Zealand] [PNG = Papua New Guinea] Occasionally, an article may contain non standard abbreviations for AIF units. Eg: ‘AFA’ used for Australian Field Ambulance (standard abbreviation is F Amb); normally ‘AFA’ indicates Australian Field Artillery. Where this has been identified, the corrected abbreviation appears in the index. Also, many articles contain only general references to ‘Artillery’, ‘Light Horse’ etc, and the index maintains the generality in such cases. ‘?’ appearing within an entry denotes uncertainty as to accuracy of what immediately follows. Eg: ‘?34th Bn’ indicates that it is probably 34 th Bn, but not certain. Certain other abbreviations can be ambiguous. Eg: ‘AFC’ could be interpreted as Australian Flying Corps or Air Force Cross. In this case the decoration/award will be bracketed (AFC); the unit will appear as AFC. Lt-Col denotes Lieutenant Colonel ; Lt Col denotes Lieutenant Col (shortened version of Colin, Colley, Colette etc). FFFAIF Objectives and Membership Application Form, DIGGER Quiz / Campbell’s Challenge (Q&A), Member book reviews/promotions, AGM Notices, Financial Reports, Activity Programs etc are not indexed. The material in this index is related to the content of DIGGER and not all of it is WWI related. Although great care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of this index, it is understood that omissions and errors may occur.
