There are 92 matches behind us and what remains is a great interfusion of contenders with eight teams from seven countries: Hungary, Romania, FYR Macedonia, Montene- gro, Norway, Denmark and France. The only hurdle standing between the teams and their ticket to Budapest is the quarter-final. It is with great pleasure that we welcome this mix of well-rehearsed teams who all but Metz have already been amongst the top eight of the continent. It is a maiden trip for the French champions whose previous best was a final in the EHF Cup four years ago. The constellation of the quarter-final pairings opens several interesting possibilities for the final tournament in the Budapest Papp Laszlo Sportarena as it could give us the very same four teams as the previous edition, but also a completely different quartet with only Larvik and FC Midtjylland boasting previous experience of the season-ending highlight. Danish side Midtjylland were part of the premiere edition of the OMEN’SW EHF FI- NAL4 in 2014, while Larvik reached the event the following season, but if they want to vie for the privilege of descending upon the final venue they have to succeed in stern tests - Midtjylland face perennial bronze medal winners Vardar and Larvik take on 2012 and 2015 champions Buducnost. On the contrary to the previous season when the two Hungarian teams met in a merciless quarter-final clash, this time around both Györ and FTC can represent the host nation in Budapest - but only if they overcome their quarter-final obstacles. While the 2013 and 2014 trophy holders from Györ lock horns with Metz, Ferenc- varos will try to eliminate defending champions CSM Bucuresti. No matter the constellation of the remaining four teams, we dare say that handball fans, both in the arena and in front of their TV screens, are bound to witness the most exciting edition of this event yet. It gives us plenty of satisfaction to announce another strong player will enter the tournament besides the four best teams of the continent after sports betting game TIPPMIX, a product of Hungary’s national lottery, Szerencsejáték Zrt., has become the title sponsor of this year’s event. We wish all the teams the best of luck in their upcoming quests and all fans in the arenas many exciting moments. Sporting wishes.
