President’s Message Welcome everyone to the 68th annual Alberta Oilmen’s Association Bonspiel. We have a fantastic event planned for this year. The Calgary Curling Club will host all games again this year, including the “draw to the button” finals on Sunday afternoon. The Red and White Club will host the Curler’s Caper banquet and dance. Also, we are pleased to announce that the meal for the Curler’s Caper will be a plated affair instead of a buffet style meal. The silent auction will be in full swing beginning on registration night. Bidding on all auction items will close Saturday night at the Curler’s Caper so make sure you come out and bid often. All proceeds from the silent auction are put back into the sport of curling. As a result of your tremendous generosity last year’s silent auction was a huge success. That success put us in a position to give a little something back to the sport of curling, to make a difference at the “grass roots” level of the game. The decision was made to purchase and donate a “Rocks & Rings” floor curl starter kit to Captain John Palliser elementary school. This year alone over 500 children were given the chance to experience the great sport of curling. Not only did they get to participate in the “Rocks & Rings” floor curling program they also got to go to an actual curling rink and experience the real thing. The principle at Captain John Palliser has informed me that they intend to run the curling program at the school for at least the next 10 plus years. Just think of the number of kids that will get to experience curling via this program. And, this is just one school in the city, imagine what could be accomplished if multiple schools were to run a program such as this. Please check out the “Rocks & Rings” display located upstairs at the curling club. THANK YOU again, to all the sponsors, donors, bidders, participants, spectators, and family members for making this such a premier event. I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink, on the ice, and at the banquet. GOOD LUCK and have fun. Specifically, the Five Rock, Free Guard Zone Rule applies. Rules Pertaining Specifically to This Bonspiel 1. If a competing rink is not ready to commence play at the time named for the beginning of the match, one end must be counted as played for every ten minutes delay, and the opposing rink, if ready to play, shall score one point for each ten minute period they have been kept waiting. The team that has been kept waiting will have last rock on the first end played. At the end of one half hour the game will be forfeited. 2. All games including the finals will be eight ends. To keep the draws on time, a 100 minute buzzer will be used to notify teams to complete the end they are playing plus one more. Tied games will be decided by playing “Skip Rocks”, except for the semi- final and final games, which will be decided by extra end(s). The semi-final and final games will NOT be buzzed.
