BEIT IMMANUEL Global Outreach Synagogue YHVH PUBLISHING HOUSE Holy to ADONAI MESSIANIC YISR A'EL SIDDUR DAILY & SHABBAT SIDDUR PRAYER BOOK BEIT IMMANUEL Global Outreach Synagogue by YHVH PUBLISHING HOUSE Messianic Yisra'el Daily & Shabbat Siddur THE GIFT AND BEAUTY OF SHABBAT When ADONAI rested from His work of creation, He gave us the 7th Day - the Shabbat (or Shabbat). ADONAI sanctified this day and taught us to do likewise. So the Shabbat is given as a sign between ADONAI and His people, and as a commemoration of our Creator, and the very act of creation. In its simplest definition, "Shabbat" means "Rest," and so each Shabbat is a day of rest ... rest in the sense of ceasing from all the normal work & activities of the other six days of the week. It is to be a time of joy, peace and tranquility, away from the cares and worries of the world. ADONAI Elohim calls each Shabbat day "a holy convocation". "Convocation" means a "gathering together"; it is a group of believers assembling or gathering for worship, praise, and celebration. Shabbat is a day of rejoicing and joining with one another in the Presence of ADONAI! The Shabbat is a picture of the Olam Ha'Ba, or the world to come. In the rhythm of the Olam Ha'Zeh, or the present world that we live in now, however, the Shabbat is a sacred time to become spiritually reconnected with our true identities, as ADONAI Elohim's own children. "I have a precious gift in my treasure house, said ADONAI Elohim to Moses,'Shabbat' is its name; go and tell Yisra'el I wish to present it to them." ( Genesis 2:2 ) The children of Yisra'el shall keep the Shabbat throughout their generations as a covenant forever. Between Me and the children of Yisra'el it is a sign forever. ( Exodus 31:16-17 ) Call the Shabbat a delight and the holy day of ADONAI honorable. "Zakhor et-yom ha-Shabbat le-kadesho". "V'ka-ra-ta la-Shabbat Oneg". ( Isaiah 58:13 ) Keep the Shabbat day to sanctify it ... "Shamor et-yom ha-Shabbat le-kadesho". ( Deut. 5:12 ) The Shabbat is to be Kadosh or Holy. "Remember the Shabbat to keep it holy ... wherefore ADONAI blessed the Shabbat and hallowed it." ( Exodus 20:9, 11 b ) Page 1 of 188 Also the sons of the stranger that join themselves to ADONAI, to serve Him and to love the name of ADONAI, to be His servants, everyone that keeps the Shabbat, from polluting it, and takes hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my Holy mountain ... ( Isaiah 56:6-7a) The word Shabbat, was given to both Jews and non-Jews. It is a time for Oneg (sharing of celebratory meals), joy, and delight. Oneg implies celebration, sharing time with loved ones, leisurely meals with special , hospitality, relaxation, and Zmirote (the singing of Shabbat songs). Shabbat is also to be a time of spiritual and physical rest and refreshment, called M'noo-cha. This implies more than just refraining from work. On Shabbat we are instructed to turn away from worldly activities and to focus on the things of ADONAI. We are to only seek out spiritual pursuits. If the week is characterized by stress, chaos, rush, and turmoil, Shabbat brings us into an opposite state of mind, bringing us to serenity, and to the rejuvenation of the spirit, the mind and the body. It is this unique quality of Shabbat's state of M'noo-cha which caused the Jewish tradition to refer to Shabbat as "a foretaste of the days of the Messiah." It is a reflection of what it will be like to live in our Messiah's coming Kingdom. ---------------------------------- THE MEANING OF THE LIGHTING OF THE 2 CANDLES ON SHABBAT The 2 candles represent the dual commandments that ADONAI gave His people: • the first is to Remember the Shabbat day, and • the second is to keep the Shabbat Kadosh (holy). Another interpretation: The first candle represents ADONAI's Creation: "In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth ... and Elohim said,'Let there be Light!'" (Genesis 1:1-3) Yeshua said: "I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (John 8:12) The second candle represents Redemption: "Being justified freely by His Grace through the Redemption that is in Yeshua Ha'Mashiach!" ( Romans 3:24 ) We pray is that this Messianic Daily and Shabbat Siddur will bless the members of your Congregation and bring joy and delight to your Messianic Shabbat services and worship, and honor to our ADONAI Elohim and His Son, Yeshua.
