College Counseling 101: Northeastern PA Friday, October 24th 8:30-1:30pm The University of Scranton, Brennan Hall Room 509 8:30-9:00 am Registration 9:00 am Welcome 9:15-10:15 am Session One “Understanding the Selective College Admissions Process” Presented by: Mrs. Krista Evans, Senior Associate Director of Admissions, Lehigh University Admissions officers review and make decisions on hundreds, sometimes thousands, of applications in a short period of time. They are under enormous pressure to assess the applicant pool in order to produce the best class and the best campus community possible. During this session, participants will learn more about what factors into the increasingly selective college application process. 10:15 am BREAK 10:30-11:30 am Session Two “Creating a successful High School Profile and Writing Effective Letters of Recommendation” Presented by: Mr. Chuck Bachman, Senior Associate Director of Admissions, Lafayette College This session will explore what admission officers consider the most useful components of the high school profile as well as a better understanding of how both counselor and teacher letters of recommendation are used in the college admission process. 11:45 am-1:15 pm Lunch including Financial Aid Updates & a College Admission Panel Financial Aid Updates: Mr. Bill Burke, Director of Financial Aid, University of Scranton Representatives from several colleges and universities will be available to field questions during this informational panel discussion. Panel will include: Mr. Joe Roback, University of Scranton Mrs. Krista Evans, Lehigh University Mr. Chuck Bachman, Lafayette College Ms. Kristen Nickey, Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania Mr. John Barnes, The Pennsylvania State University Mr. Jim Domzalski, Luzerne County Community College 1:15-1:30 pm Wrap Up Participants will complete evaluation forms and receive information regarding requesting ACT 48 credit. Only participants who stay through lunch will receive information regarding ACT 48 credit. .
